Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Mass Spectrum" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: the spectrum view of an analytical chemistry instrument. Hairline sticks on a near-black field, one white reference peak, exact numbers printed where they matter, and a small compound card. Precise and minimal.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #0C0F12.
- Peaks: #2EC4B6 (teal); minor peaks the same teal at 45% opacity.
- The largest (reference) peak: #FFFFFF.
- Labels and axis titles: #9AA7B2. Gridlines #1F262D. Axis line and ticks #56626D. Title #F1F4F6, peak labels #CFE9E6, source #66727D.
- Info card: #11161B with a 1px #2A333C border and a 2px teal bar on its left edge.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- IBM Plex Sans: title 600, 26px, #F1F4F6 at x 48, baseline 50, stating the finding; subtitle 400, 15px, #9AA7B2; the y-axis title 500, 11px uppercase with 2px letter-spacing, rotated, reading "RELATIVE ABUNDANCE (%)"; the card name 600, 13px uppercase with 2.4px letter-spacing.
- IBM Plex Mono: every number (tick labels 12px, peak labels 500 12px, the reference peak label 600 14px white, formula 15px teal with 10px subscripts, card details 12px, the italic "m/z" axis title 13px).

Layout:
- Plot area x 104 to 900, y 136 to 516. The info card (300 x 118px) sits in the largest empty region inside the plot, usually top left; it names the subject, gives its formula or key facts and can carry a small line drawing in 1.2px #9AA7B2 with teal atom labels.
- Key row under the x axis at baseline 560: short stick samples with "Base peak (100%)", "Fragment 10%+" and "Minor < 10%". Source at the bottom left.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal gridlines 1px #1F262D at 20% steps; y tick labels right aligned at x 92. No vertical gridlines.
- A 1.2px #56626D x axis with 6px major ticks and labels every 20 units and 3px minor ticks every 5.

Marks:
- Bar chart: a stick spectrum. Every bar is a hairline stick 2.2px wide (3px for the reference peak), square ends, no fill area, drawn in teal; the reference bar is white; bars under 10% of the maximum drop to 45% opacity and lose their labels. Values or categories print centered 8px above each labeled stick. Mark the special bar (the molecular ion here) with an asterisk after its label and explain it in the card.
- Line chart: draw the line as a 1.4px teal polyline with no smoothing and drop hairline 1px teal sticks at 45% opacity from each point to the baseline; the maximum point is white with its label in 600 white.

Labels and annotation:
- Relationships between peaks use a 1px #9AA7B2 dashed (3 3) connector with a small filled arrowhead and a mono caption above it (with a proper subscript tspan for formulas).

Avoid: filled bars, gradients, glows, rounded ends, color for anything other than the peaks, and legends with boxes.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the sticks are thin but visible at thumbnail size, peak labels never collide with neighbors or the card, and only one peak is white.
