Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Mass Bump" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a particle physics result slide on black. Serious and minimal: soft gray histogram bins, crisp white error bars and fit, and amber reserved for the signal region, with a residuals inset proving the excess.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #0A0A0A. Inset panel fill #111214 with a 1px #2A2C30 border.
- Histogram bins: #9AA0A8. Signal or highlighted bins, their callout and inset residuals: #F2B134 amber.
- Error bars, fit curve, title and axis titles: #F4F4F2.
- Secondary text and tick labels: #8A8F96. Gridlines #1E1F22; baseline and tick marks #3A3C40; inset zero line #4A4D52.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Sulphur Point 300, 400 and 700. Title 700 27px #F4F4F2 stating the finding; subtitle 15px #8A8F96 with measure, bin width, unit and the key numbers (events over background and local significance, written as "sigma").
- Axis titles 700 13px #F4F4F2 ("Events / 10 GeV" above the y axis, "Invariant mass (GeV)" right-aligned under the x axis). Tick labels 13px. Callout head 700 14px uppercase with 1.2px letter-spacing in amber, body 13px #F4F4F2. Inset title 700 11px uppercase with 1.4px letter-spacing.

Layout:
- Title baseline 58, subtitle 86 at x 56. Plot from x 96 to 900 and y 136 to 490.
- A one-line legend at the top right (gray square "Data", dashed white stroke "Background fit", amber square "Excess bins").
- Residuals inset 300 x 134 px at the top right (x 600 to 900, y 196 to 330) over the low tail of the histogram, titled "DATA MINUS FIT", with gridlines and signed labels (+100, +50, 0, -50).
- The callout sits centered above the peak bin: amber head, white significance line, then a 1.2px amber 40px leader down to just above the error bar.

Axes and grid:
- y from zero with 4 or 5 horizontal gridlines in #1E1F22; x ticks every 50 units as 6px #3A3C40 marks below the #3A3C40 baseline. No vertical gridlines.

Marks:
- Bar chart: a histogram of touching bins separated by a 1.2px black gap, #9AA0A8 fill, square corners, from zero; the excess bins in solid #F2B134. On every bin a 1.2px #F4F4F2 error bar (square root of the count) with 8px caps. The background-only fit as a smooth 1.8px #F4F4F2 dashed curve (7 on, 5 off) over the bars. In the inset, residual bars (data minus fit) from a zero line, gray with the excess bins in amber.
- Line chart: data as white points (r 3) with error bars, the background fit as the dashed white curve, the signal region shaded amber at 25% opacity between data and fit, and the same residual inset below or in a corner.

Avoid: color on the background bins, gradients, glows, rounded bars, gridlines inside the bars competing with the error bars, and a y axis that does not start at zero.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the excess count and significance in the subtitle match the data, the inset does not cover any bar or error bar, the dashed fit stays visible over the bins, and amber appears only on the signal region.
