Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Market Close" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: the closing-bell segment of a financial news channel. A dark set lit by a deep blue backlight, a crisp white line, green and red read at a glance, a glass quote box and a ticker crawling along the bottom.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: radial gradient centred slightly above the middle, #123A8A at the centre, #0A1C4A at 55%, #050D24 at the edges. Optional faint vertical set lines, white at 2.5%, every 80px.
- Main line: #F4F7FF, 2.5px, with a soft glow (Gaussian blur 4 merged under the line).
- Gain: #3BE08A. Loss: #F0405A (and a lighter #FF8A9A for loss text on dark).
- Secondary text: #8A9CC4. Gridlines: #1B2C57, 1px. Ticker strip: gradient #16295A to #0A1633.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Exo 2 throughout (quote the family name: 'Exo 2'). Eyebrow 600, 14px, 2.4px letter-spacing, uppercase, #8A9CC4. Title 700, 27px, #F4F7FF, on up to two lines. Subtitle 400, 15px, #8A9CC4.
- Quote box: label 600, 13px, 2px letter-spacing, uppercase; the headline value 700, 50px, -0.5px letter-spacing; the change 700, 18px, in gain or loss color after a solid triangle.
- Axis labels 500, 13px, #8A9CC4. Annotations 600, 12 to 13px. Ticker 15px: symbol 700, price 500 #C9D3EC, change 700 in gain or loss color.

Layout:
- Eyebrow, title and subtitle top-left behind a 6px gain-green vertical bar.
- Glass quote box top-right: 312 x 132px, rx 12, a white gradient fill from 16% to 3% opacity, 1px white stroke at 22%, and a brighter 44px band across its top.
- Plot from x 60 to x 852, y 196 to y 466, with value labels on the right.
- Ticker strip across the full width at y 528 (40px tall) with a solid green "MARKETS" block on the left and items separated by small dots, fading out at the right edge. Footer: source left, a note right, 12px #8A9CC4.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal gridlines only, 1px #1B2C57, labels to the right of the plot. Time ticks (6px) and labels under the plot every 90 minutes.
- The reference level (previous close, target or zero) is a 1.2px dashed line (5 on, 5 off) in white at 70%, labeled in a small dark tag just below its left end.

Marks:
- Line chart: straight segments. Fill between the line and the reference level: green above it (vertical gradient #3BE08A 50% at the top to 8% at the reference) and red below it (#F0405A 8% at the reference to 50% at the bottom), each clipped to its side. Mark the last point with a white dot (r 4.5) inside a green halo (r 9, 30%). Label the day high in green top-right and the day low with a red dot and a pink label beside it.
- Bar chart: bars grow up or down from the reference level: gains in #3BE08A, losses in #F0405A, each with a vertical gradient fading to 45% opacity at the baseline and a 2px white top edge at 40%; the latest bar gets the glow.

Avoid: light backgrounds, pastel colors, 3D, rounded chunky bars, color as the only cue (always pair green and red with position, sign or arrow), and ticker text running off the canvas.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the headline change and percentage match the data, the green and red areas switch exactly at the reference line, and the glow isn't clipped.
