Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Marble" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: the performance page of a luxury hospitality portfolio review. Polished white marble with fine grey and gold veins, black stone marks and slim brushed brass details. Quiet, expensive and precise.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Marble ground: #F6F4F0. Inner chart panel: #FBFAF7 at 86% opacity.
- Veins: #B9B4AD (grey) and #C9A65B (gold).
- Data marks: polished black stone #16161A.
- Brass for targets, ticks, the panel border and the eyebrow: #A8844A.
- Qualitative bands, darkest = worst: #BDB8B1, #D3CFC9, #E6E3DE.
- Ink: #2E2B28. Secondary text: #6E6962.

Typography (Google Fonts), lining figures everywhere (font-variant-numeric: lining-nums):
- Cormorant Garamond 600 for the title (36px, #2E2B28, sentence case stating the finding), category names (21px) and value figures (22px, right-aligned). Cormorant Garamond italic 400, 14px for the source line.
- Montserrat for small caps-style labels: eyebrow 600, 11px, uppercase, 3.2px letter-spacing, brass; subtitle 400, 14px, #6E6962; sublabels such as "TARGET $4.50M" 500, 9.5px, 1.8px letter-spacing; axis labels 500, 11px, 0.8px letter-spacing; the variance under each value 600, 9px, 1.2px letter-spacing, brass when ahead and #6E6962 when behind.

Layout:
- 64px side margins. Eyebrow at y 58, title at y 99, subtitle at y 128.
- A clean inset panel from x 40 to 920 and y 152 to 540 in #FBFAF7 at 86%, with a 0.8px brass hairline border inset 6px. The veins stay visible around the panel and faintly through it.
- Inside: a label column at x 72 (name over its target sublabel), bullets from x 290 to 790, and values right-aligned at x 904. A key and the source line sit on the marble below the panel at y 570.

Axes and grid:
- No gridlines and no y axis. A 1px brass scale line under the last row with brass ticks every half unit (7px, 1.2px for whole units; 4px, 0.8px for halves) and Montserrat labels under the whole-unit ticks.

Marks:
- Bar chart: horizontal bullet charts, one row per category, 52px pitch. Each row has three 26px tall qualitative bands (0 to 70% of target, 70 to 90%, 90% to the scale end) in the three greys, a slim 10px black stone bar for the actual value, and a 2.5px wide brass target marker 34px tall (4px above and below the bands). The stone bar uses a vertical gradient #4A4A50 to #16161A (at 28%) to #0B0B0D with a 1px white line at 22% opacity just inside its top edge for polish. The brass marker is a horizontal gradient #8C6A34, #D2B173, #A8844A for a brushed look. Sort rows by value.
- Line chart: a 2.5px #16161A line with 4px black stone dots, a thin 1.5px brass target or reference line, and the same grey bands drawn as horizontal qualitative zones behind the plot. Label the last point with its value in Cormorant Garamond 22px.

Labels and annotation:
- The title is engraved: draw it twice, first in white offset 2px down, then in #2E2B28, so it looks cut into the stone.
- Under each value, its variance vs. target ("+6.8% VS TARGET"). Compute it from the data.

Texture:
- Cloudy marble: fractal noise (base frequency 0.006 x 0.012, 4 octaves) in a soft warm grey at 40% opacity.
- About 15 veins: meandering polylines with 14px steps and random turns of up to 0.25 radians, running diagonally from the top edge, 0.6 to 1.7px grey at 62% opacity, every fourth one 0.9px gold at 75%, each with a short 0.5px fork. Blur all veins by 0.7px.

Avoid: colored data marks, rounded bars, drop shadows, heavy vein contrast, veins crossing the text, and any legend other than the small key.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the title looks engraved rather than doubled, the variance labels are arithmetically right, the brass marker is visible on every row, and the veins never reduce label legibility.
