Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Malaise Biomass" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: an environmental monitoring dashboard seen at dusk. Olive-black ground, one confident thick gold line, a faint dashed memory of past years, and an honest break wherever data is missing.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #1A1C14 (olive-black).
- Main series, eyebrow and callout: #E2B84A (warm gold).
- Reference series (multi-year average): #8F8D78, dashed.
- Missing-data bands: #24271C. Gridlines: #2C2F23; the zero line and x ticks #454937.
- Primary text: #EDEAD8. Secondary text: #9A977F.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Golos Text throughout. Title 600, 27px, #EDEAD8, -0.4px letter-spacing, stating the finding. Eyebrow 11px 600 uppercase with 2.2px letter-spacing in gold. Subtitle 15px 400 #9A977F with measure, unit and period.
- Legend 13px (current series 600 #EDEAD8, reference 400 #9A977F). Ticks and month labels 12px #9A977F. Gap labels 10.5px #9A977F. Callout: headline 14px 600 gold, body 12.5px #EDEAD8. Footer 12px #9A977F.

Layout:
- 56px left margin. Eyebrow at y 50, title at y 92, subtitle at y 120 with the legend on the same baseline at the right (short line swatches 28px long).
- Plot from x 84 to 900, y 164 to 486. The unit ("g") sits above the y labels. Month labels 4px right of 6px ticks under the axis. Footer note at y 572 explaining the breaks and giving the source.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal 1px #2C2F23 gridlines at round values; y labels right-aligned 12px left of the plot. No vertical gridlines, no y-axis line.

Marks:
- Line chart: the main series as a 4.5px gold polyline with round caps and joins. Where a period is missing, end the line and restart it after the gap (never interpolate), and shade the gap with a #24271C band from the plot top to the baseline, labeled "Serviced" just above the band. The reference series as a continuous 1.6px #8F8D78 line dashed 5 on 4 off.
- Bar chart: gold bars with square corners at about 70% of the band, missing periods left empty with the same #24271C band and label; the reference as a dashed #8F8D78 tick across each bar slot.
- Peak callout: a 7px open circle (background fill, 3px gold stroke) on the peak, a 1px gold vertical leader up to a 212 x 62 px box (background fill, 1px gold stroke, 4px radius) centered above the peak, with the headline ("Peak, week 28: 18.4 g") and a two-line comparison to the reference computed from the data.

Avoid: interpolating across gaps, smoothing, area gradients, glows, a second axis, more than one callout and pure black or pure white.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the line breaks exactly at the missing periods, the callout's percent is right, the callout box does not cover the line, and the legend fits inside the right margin.
