Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Mainframe Console" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: the operator panel of a machine-room computer. A dark painted steel panel in a brushed metal bezel, indicator lamps glowing amber and white, engraved condensed captions, a recessed readout and a row of toggle switches. Serious engineering hardware, not a sci-fi screen.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Panel: #1D2530, inset 18px inside the bezel with 3px corners and a 2px #0E1319 edge.
- Bezel: brushed metal, a vertical gradient #C3C9CF to #A7AFB7 to #7F8891, overlaid with horizontal brushing (fractal noise stretched with base frequency 0.004 x 0.8, white at 22% alpha). Four small screw heads in the corners.
- Amber lamp: #FFB347 for lit lamps, the readout digits, batch window shading (10% fill with a 2px top rule), their captions and the peak marker.
- Soft white: #E8ECEF for the data line, the title, white-lit lamps and the key.
- Grid: #2A3441 minor lines (0.6px) and #3A4757 major lines (1px). Unlit lamps #2E3845. Captions and axis labels #8B97A4.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Barlow Condensed 600 for engraved panel captions: 12px uppercase with 2 to 2.2px letter-spacing in #8B97A4. Also the title: 32px uppercase, 0.6px letter-spacing, soft white, stating the finding.
- IBM Plex Mono for data text: subtitle 13px uppercase with measure, unit and interval; axis labels 12px; key 12px; peak callout 13px 600 amber; readout "LOAD" 18px 600 and value 30px 600 in amber with a soft 1.6px glow.

Layout:
- Top strip (y 40 to 70): three engraved groups of 16px square lamps on a 24px pitch (rx 1.5), each group headed by its caption. Lit lamps get a 4px blur glow.
- An engraved double rule under the lamps (1.5px #0E1319 above 1px #3A4654) and another above the switch row.
- Title at y 136, subtitle at y 162. A recessed readout box (172 x 58, fill #10151C, thin metal outline) on the right of the title with a "PEAK" caption, "LOAD" and the value.
- Plot area x 88 to 912, y 196 to 436. Key and source line at y 480.
- Switch row at the bottom: toggle switches on a 26px pitch (8px dark collar, 4.5px #C9CFD5 lever with a #EEF1F3 tip, up or down), grouped with centered engraved captions under each group such as ADDRESS / DATA, RUN, WAIT, SYS, INTR, LOAD, and a small engraved nameplate box at the right end.

Axes and grid:
- Fine grid: minor lines every 5 units and every hour, major lines every 25 units and every 4 hours. No axis lines beyond the grid. Y labels right-aligned 10px left of the plot, x labels 20px below.

Marks:
- Line chart: a single 2px soft white step line (horizontal then vertical, miter joins) with a 1.6px glow. Shade the relevant windows (batch jobs, maintenance) in 10% amber with a 2px amber top rule and a caption just above the plot. Mark the peak with a 4.5px amber dot and a label like "87% AT 02:45".
- Bar chart: square-cornered soft white bars at about 60% of the band, the peak bar amber with a lamp-like glow, values in Plex Mono 12px above each bar; shaded windows work the same way behind the bars.

Effects:
- Glows only on lamps, the readout, the data line and the peak marker. Every glow filter uses userSpaceOnUse bounds covering the whole canvas so nothing clips.

Avoid: neon colors, rounded cards, gradients inside the plot, more than one data color, lowercase captions, and screen effects like scanlines (this is a panel, not a monitor).

When you're done, render the chart and check that the readout matches the peak in the data, captions sit clear of lamps and switches, window captions do not touch the peak label, and the step line reads crisply at thumbnail size.
