Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Loudness Log

DarkLine

Console-black loudness trace that turns amber and red at hard thresholds.

  • Console black#0C0D0F
  • Meter green#3DDC84
  • Amber#FFB020
  • Over red#FF4D5E
  • Target white#FFFFFF

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Loudness Log" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a broadcast console metering screen in a live studio. Near-black, monospaced, technical and exact, with meter colors that switch at hard thresholds.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #0C0D0F. Header strip: #131519 with a #23262C bottom border.
- Trace zones: #3DDC84 (green, normal), #FFB020 (amber, above the first threshold), #FF4D5E (red, above the second threshold). Target line: #FFFFFF.
- Text: #FFFFFF title, #C9CED6 tag text, #6C737F secondary text. Gridlines: #1C1F24.
- Tags: #181B20 fill with a #2C3038 border. Readout boxes: #121418 with a #22252B border.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Martian Mono throughout. Title 21px 600 white, -0.5px letter-spacing, stating the finding. Subtitle 11px 400 #6C737F. Header 10px 500 uppercase with 1px letter-spacing. Readout labels 8.5px 500 uppercase with 1px letter-spacing; readout values 13px 700. Tags 9px 500 uppercase. Axis labels 10px. Threshold labels 8px 700 in their zone color. Use a true minus sign for negative numbers.

Layout:
- A 36px header strip: a red "ON AIR" block (64 x 15, 2px radius, dark 9px 700 text), the station / studio / log name, and the time window right-aligned.
- Title at y 80, subtitle at y 104, then a row of four readout boxes (40px tall, 3px radius) at y 120: key summary numbers, each value in the color it relates to.
- Segment tags (16px tall, 3px radius) at the start of each named segment, staggered on two rows at top minus 44 and top minus 22 so neighbors never collide, with faint 1px #262A31 dotted dividers (2 on, 3 off) dropping to the baseline.
- Plot from x 96 to 904, top 218, baseline 500. Threshold and target labels sit just right of the plot.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal 1px #1C1F24 gridlines every 4 units, labels right-aligned 10px left of the plot with a small unit caption above. A #2C3038 baseline with 5px ticks and clock-time labels.

Marks:
- Line chart: a jagged straight-segment 1.6px trace (no smoothing), colored by value with hard stops: a vertical userSpaceOnUse gradient on the stroke switching green to amber at the first threshold and amber to red at the second. Add a soft glow (Gaussian blur 3 merged under the source). Thresholds are 1px hairlines in amber and red at 35% opacity; the target is a 1.5px white dashed line (7 on, 5 off).
- Bar chart: thin 6px meter bars with square ends, each bar filled with the same hard-stop green, amber, red gradient in user space so the color changes at the threshold heights; same thresholds, target and tags.

Avoid: smoothing, rounded friendly shapes, serif or proportional fonts, soft pastel colors, and any fill under the trace.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the color switches happen exactly at the threshold values, no two segment tags overlap, and the readout numbers match the data.
