Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Loom Draft" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a handweaver's pattern draft on crisp squared paper. The data is "woven" as filled draft squares, with a threading strip across the top and a tie-up box in the corner, so the chart reads like a drawdown. Precise, quiet, two inks and one red accent.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Paper: #FBFAF7 for the whole canvas.
- Draft grid: #D8D6D0 (0.7px lines, 1.2px on every fifth column).
- Filled cells and primary text: #1E2A5A (deep indigo).
- Accent: #B33A2E (madder red), only for the leading category (its squares, name and value) and one cell of the tie-up.
- Secondary text: #6B6A66.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Karla for words: title 700 30px indigo stating the finding; subtitle 400 16px secondary; category names 500 15px indigo, right-aligned 14px left of the grid (the leader 700 in red); section labels ("THREADING", "TIE-UP") 700 11px uppercase with 1.6px letter-spacing in secondary; a 12px italic note under "THREADING" ("point draw").
- IBM Plex Mono for every count: values 13px 500 (600 for the leader) 10px past the end of each bar; scale labels 11px; shaft numbers 10px; key 12px; footer draft code 11px.

Layout:
- Everything snaps to an 18px draft cell. 48px side margins. Title at the top left, subtitle under it.
- Threading strip: 4 cell rows starting about 120px from the top, spanning the same columns as the bars, with shaft numbers 4 to 1 just right of it.
- Tie-up box: a 4 x 4 cell square in the upper right, aligned with the threading rows, outlined in 1.2px indigo, labeled "TIE-UP" centered above.
- One blank cell row, then the bars: each bar is one cell row tall with one blank row between bars.
- Under the grid: mono scale labels every fifth column (0, 50, 100 ...), and at the right a key: a 12px indigo square "= 10 skeins" (or the unit per square) and a hatched half square "part".
- Footer: "Source: ..." at left in Karla 12px, a mono draft code at right ("DRAFT NO. 7 · 4 SHAFTS · 4 TREADLES").

Axes and grid:
- No axis lines: the draft grid is the axis. Grid lines run under the threading strip and under all bar rows; every fifth vertical is heavier (1.2px).

Marks:
- Bar chart (horizontal): one filled square per unit (for example 10 skeins): an indigo square inset 1.5px inside its 18px cell. The remainder is a partial square whose width is the leftover fraction, filled with 45-degree hatching (1.6px indigo lines every 4px on paper) and outlined 0.8px in indigo. The leading bar uses madder red for squares, hatching and outline.
- Line chart: plot on the same draft grid, with each point snapped to a cell and drawn as a filled 12px square (inset 3px) in indigo, connected by a 1.5px indigo straight line through the cell centers; the peak point in madder red. Hatched half squares mark values that fall between cells.
- Threading: in each column of the strip, one 12px indigo square (inset 3px) on the shaft row given by a point draw (1 2 3 4 3 2, repeating). Tie-up: a 12px square in the cells of a straight 2/2 twill tie-up, one of them red.

Avoid: rounded corners, gradients, shadows, colors beyond indigo and one red, and continuous bars (always show the individual squares).

When you're done, render the chart and check that every square is the same size and aligned to the grid, the partial square's width matches the remainder, only the leader is red, and the values and title share are arithmetically right.
