Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Long Evening" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a northern winter evening in a 1950s living room. Dark pine green like a painted wall, a soft cream line and a warm candle-yellow line, the space between them washed in pale sage, and a small crescent moon by the title.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #132520 (dark pine green).
- First series: #F1E6CC (soft cream). Second series: #F2B33D (candle yellow). The crescent moon is also candle yellow.
- Area between the two lines: #A9C4A0 (pale sage) at 20% opacity.
- Subtitle and secondary labels: #8FA599. Axis labels and source: #5E766C. Gridlines: #223A33 (the zero line #5E766C).

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Fraunces for the title (500, 34px, #F1E6CC, stating the relationship) and the italic footer note (14px, #8FA599).
- Jost for everything else: subtitle 16px #8FA599; legend 14px 500 cream; month labels 13px 500; axis labels 13px; annotations 13.5px 500 in the series color; source 12px.

Layout:
- Crescent moon at the far left of the title line: a 17px-radius disk with a 15px-radius disk subtracted, offset 9px right and 6px up. Title starts at x 112 (baseline 94), subtitle at 124, legend row at 165 with line samples, then a sage swatch for the shaded gap.
- Plot from x 96 to 872, y 214 to 482. Month labels at y 508. Source bottom left at y 560, a small italic place note bottom right.

Axes and grid:
- 1px #223A33 gridlines at 25% steps, labels right-aligned in #5E766C. No vertical gridlines, no axis lines except the zero line.
- If the two series have different units, never use a second axis: index each to % of its own peak (as here) so both share one scale, and state the real peak values in the annotations.

Marks:
- Line chart: 2.4px smooth monotone lines, a small round dot (r 2.4) at every weekly point in the line's color. Fill the region between the two lines with the sage wash. Draw the cream line on top. Circle each series' peak with a 5px ring (1.4px) and label it above in the series color with the real value.
- Bar chart: slender rounded-top bars (radius 3) in cream and candle yellow for two series, grouped with a 3px gap; a pale sage band (20%) behind periods the title highlights. Same dark ground, fonts and annotation style.

Avoid: glows, gradients on the lines, bright white, pure black, a second y-axis, heavy gridlines, more than two line colors.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the two lines are easy to tell apart, the sage wash sits exactly between them, the moon is a clean crescent, and the peak annotations match the data.
