Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Log Grades" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a timber harvest plan's grade sheet. Warm, tactile and orderly: pale birch paper, wood-toned segments from pale veneer to dark pulp and a gray for waste, a slab serif throughout, and a grade key with specifications across the top.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #F4EEE3 (pale birch).
- Series, in stacking order: #E8D3A8 (veneer), #C49A63 (sawlog), #8A6A48 (pulp), #A7A39B (waste gray). Keep the gray last: it is the "loss" category.
- Segment label text: #5A4128 on #E8D3A8, #2E2115 on #C49A63, #FBF4E6 on #8A6A48, #2E2A24 on #A7A39B.
- Ink: #3A2A1C. Secondary text: #7A6B5A. Rules and gridlines: #DCCFBC.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Zilla Slab throughout. Title 32px 700 #3A2A1C stating the finding; subtitle 16px 400 #7A6B5A with measure, unit and total; key names 14px 700 uppercase with 1.4px letter-spacing; key specs 13px 400 #7A6B5A; row names 16px 600; row codes 15px 400 #7A6B5A right-aligned; segment percentages 14px 600; right-end totals 16px 600; column headers 11px 700 uppercase with 1.4px letter-spacing; axis labels 13px; source 12px.

Layout:
- 56px side margins. Title at y 76, subtitle at y 104.
- A grade key band between two full-width 1px #DCCFBC rules (y 132 and y 190): four equal columns, each a 28px square swatch, the grade name, and a one-line specification under it.
- Column headers ("STAND" at the left, "TOTAL VOLUME" right-aligned at x 904) 14px above the first bar.
- Row labels from x 56; bars from x 238 to x 800; totals right-aligned at x 904.
- Footer: a 1px rule at y 560, "Source: ..." left and a labeling note right at y 582, 12px #7A6B5A.

Axes and grid:
- Solid 1px #DCCFBC vertical lines at 0% and 100%, dotted (2 3) lines at 25%, 50% and 75% running behind the bars; percent labels centered under them. No y-axis line.

Marks:
- Bar chart: 100% stacked horizontal bars, 30px tall on a 44px pitch, square corners, a 2px page-colored gap between segments. Each segment of at least 30px width gets its percentage 8px in from its left edge; narrower segments stay unlabeled (say so in the footer). The row's total volume is printed at the right end ("4,820 m³"). Sort rows by the share of the most valuable grade.
- Line chart: one 2.5px line per grade in the same four colors, with the pale veneer line drawn 3px with a 1px #8A6A48 outline so it holds on the birch page; direct labels at the right ends in 14px 600, and the same key band across the top.

Avoid: a separate floating legend (the key band is the legend), bright or saturated colors, gradients, wood-grain textures that fight the labels, rounded corners and drop shadows.

When you're done, render the chart and check that each row sums to 100, labels have readable contrast on every segment color, the waste gray reads as distinct from the pulp brown, and the key band is aligned in four even columns.
