Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Link Margin" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: an RF engineer's link budget sheet. Precise, quiet and technical: millimeter graph paper, a small specification table, monospaced readouts and one dark blue trace.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #F7F8F5 (off-white sheet).
- Primary trace and its annotations: #1E3A8A (deep blue). A 6% opacity fill of the same blue under a line.
- Threshold / failure: #B91C1C (red), used only for the minimum or limit line, the worst point and the limit row of the table.
- Event shading: #DBE7F8 (pale blue) at 85% opacity, with #3F5E9E for its dashed edges and labels.
- Millimeter grid: minor lines #E3E8E0 at 0.6px, major lines #CBD3C8 at 0.9px. Main ink #1C2230, secondary text #5B6472.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Rethink Sans 700 for the title, 30px, -0.6px letter-spacing, #1C2230, two lines stating the finding; Rethink Sans 400 15px #5B6472 for the subtitle with measure, unit and a computed figure.
- Martian Mono for everything else: a 10px 500 uppercase kicker with 1.2px letter-spacing above the title, axis labels 9.5 to 10px, annotation labels 8.5 to 9.5px 700 uppercase, table rows 9.5px (labels 400 #5B6472, values 600 #1C2230 right-aligned), footer 9px.

Layout:
- 56px margins. Kicker at y 44, title at y 84 and 118, subtitle at y 148.
- A link budget table in the top right (about 276 x 136 px at x 628, y 26): white fill, 1px #1C2230 border, a 22px #1C2230 header bar with "LINK BUDGET" in 9.5px 700 #F7F8F5 and a small right-aligned status tag, then five or six rows 19px tall separated by #E3E8E0 hairlines, the last row (the limit) in red. Put the chart's key parameters here.
- Plot area from x 80 to 890 and y 186 to 510, filled with the millimeter grid: a 54px major square divided into five 10.8px minor squares, anchored at the plot's top-left, framed by a 1px #CBD3C8 border. Pick scales so axis ticks land on major grid lines.
- Footer at y 580: "Source: ..." on the left, a drawing-sheet reference ("SHEET 2 OF 4 REV C") on the right, both 9px mono #5B6472.

Axes and grid:
- The millimeter grid replaces gridlines. Y labels right-aligned 10px left of the plot, with the unit ("dB") above the top label.
- X axis: small #1C2230 0.8px ticks every unit (7px long every fifth, 4px otherwise) below the plot, labels every third tick in a technical format such as "T+06:00", and a spaced uppercase axis title centered 44px below with endpoint tags (like "AOS" and "LOS") in 700 at each end.

Marks:
- Line chart: a dense 2.4px #1E3A8A trace with round joins and straight segments between closely spaced samples, a 6% fill to the baseline, and a faint dotted reference curve (1px, 45% opacity, dash 1.5 3) for the expected or clear-sky value. Shade anomalous events as full-height #DBE7F8 bands with dashed 0.8px #3F5E9E edges and a small boxed label at the top of the band (sheet-colored fill, 0.8px border, two lines: name in 700, magnitude). Mark the peak with a hollow 4px circle and "PEAK x.x dB" above it, and the worst point with a filled red circle and a red leader to "LOW x.x dB".
- Bar chart: slim square-cornered #1E3A8A bars at about 45% of the band on the same millimeter grid, bars below the threshold filled #B91C1C, event periods shaded behind as #DBE7F8 bands, value labels in 9.5px 700 mono above each bar.
- Threshold: a 1.6px #B91C1C dashed line (7 on, 4 off) across the full plot with "MIN MARGIN 3.0 dB" in 9px 700 mono red right-aligned just above it.

Avoid: rounded corners, gradients, shadows, colors beyond blue, red and pale blue, a proportional font for numbers, and thick gridlines that fight the trace.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the millimeter grid is square and aligned with the axis ticks, the table does not collide with the title, every number in the title and subtitle matches the data, and the red appears only on the limit and its breaches.
