Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Lighting Cues" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: the playback screen of a stage lighting desk in a dark control booth. Near-black background, squared technical type, glowing amber and cool blue channel traces and a strip of numbered cue boxes, precise and calm.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #080808, with a 1.5px #1C1C1C rounded frame (rx 6) inset 16px.
- Series 1: #FFB347 (warm amber). Series 2: #6FB7FF (cool blue). Only two data colors.
- Primary text: #E8E6E1. Secondary text: #7C7A76. Gridlines #1E1E1E; baseline and idle box borders #3A3A3A; box fill #121212; highlighted box fill #2A2012 with an amber border.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Oxanium throughout. Header strip 12px 600 uppercase with 2.4px letter-spacing in #7C7A76, led by an 8px amber status dot. Title 30px 600 #E8E6E1 stating the finding. Subtitle 14.5px 400 #7C7A76. Legend 12px 600 uppercase with 1.6px letter-spacing in each series color. Cue numbers 12.5px 700; fade times and axis labels 10.5 to 12px; annotations 11.5px in the series color.

Layout:
- Header strip at y 50 (left: "PLAYBACK | <SHOW> | <SECTION>", right: "CUE LIST 1"), title at y 92, subtitle at y 118, legend (24px line swatches, 3px thick) at y 143.
- A cue strip above the plot: 28 x 22px boxes (rx 3) centered on each cue time at y 166, with the fade time ("30s") centered 22px below; row captions "CUE" and "FADE" right-aligned left of the plot. Highlight the cue named in the title with an amber box.
- Plot from x 104 to 904, y 246 to 484. Footer rule at y 534, source left and a status line ("12 CUES | RUN TIME 48:00") right at y 560.

Axes and grid:
- 1px #1E1E1E horizontal gridlines at 0, 25, 50, 75 and 100, with the top labeled "FL" (full), labels right-aligned 14px left of the plot.
- A 1px #262626 dashed (2 on, 3 off) vertical guide from each cue box down to the baseline. Time labels "m:00" every 6 minutes under the plot.

Marks:
- Line chart: step lines that hold a level until a cue, then move to the new level over the cue's fade time as a straight slope (a snap is nearly vertical, a long fade is a visible ramp). Amber 3px, blue 2.5px, round joins, each with a soft glow (Gaussian blur 4 merged under the stroke, filter region the full canvas). Draw the blue first so amber sits on top.
- Bar chart: one bar per cue showing the level it moves to, amber bars (square corners, about 60% of the band) with a thinner blue bar beside each for the second channel, all from zero, under the same cue strip. Put the fade time under each pair.
- Annotate the one or two most important fades with a thin 1px bracket spanning the fade and a short label in the series color, placed in clear space.

Avoid: light backgrounds, more than two data colors, rounded or friendly fonts, smooth curves (fades are linear), heavy glows that blur the step corners, and labels that sit on a trace.

When you're done, render the chart and check that each slope's width matches its fade time, cue boxes don't overlap (widen spacing or abbreviate if they do), no annotation touches a trace, each annotation sits right beside the cue event it names (not a neighboring cue), and the glow isn't clipped at the plot edges.
