Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Length Frequency" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a port sampling lab's length-frequency plot. Practical, clean and slightly technical: a pale gray-blue sheet, flush slate histogram bins, a bold dashed legal-size line and hand-placed annotations that name the cohorts.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #EEF1F4 (pale gray-blue).
- Bars: #4C6A8A (slate blue). Bins under the threshold (minimum size): #A9BCD0 (pale tint of the same hue).
- Ink for title, threshold line and annotations: #1C2733. Secondary text #5E6B7A. Gridlines #D8DEE6. Eyebrow in #4C6A8A.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Hind throughout. Eyebrow 13px 600 uppercase with 2.2px letter-spacing. Title 700 32px, stating the finding with the percentage. Subtitle 17px #5E6B7A with measure, bin width and sample size.
- Tick labels 14px #5E6B7A; axis titles 13px 600; annotation heads 15px 700 #1C2733 with 13.5px regular detail lines; threshold chip 13.5px 700 white with 0.6px letter-spacing.

Layout:
- 56px side margins. Eyebrow at y 58, title at 96, subtitle at 124. Plot x 96 to 900, top 168 to baseline 486. Key row at y 560 and source line at 584.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal 1px #D8DEE6 gridlines every 40 fish, labels left of the plot, a small "Fish" unit label above them.
- A 1.4px #1C2733 baseline; ticks every 5 cm with labels 24px below, and "Total length, cm" right-aligned under the axis.

Marks:
- Bar chart (histogram): one bar per 1 cm bin, touching neighbors with a 1.2px gap, square corners, starting at zero. Bins below the threshold in the pale tint.
- Threshold: a 2.4px #1C2733 dashed vertical line (8 on, 5 off) running from above the plot to the baseline, topped by a 118 x 22px dark chip with 3px radius reading "MLS 27 cm" in white, and the undersized share in 13.5px 600 slate to its left.
- Modes: a 2.2px dark dot above each mode bar with a 1px leader to a bold label ("Age 1") and a detail line ("mode 21 cm, 141 fish"); a label for the tail cohort without a leader.
- Line chart: a 2.5px slate stepped line (step-after at each bin edge) with a 12% slate fill below it, the part below the threshold in the pale tint; same threshold line and annotations.

Avoid: gaps wider than 2px between bins, rounded bar tops, gradients, a legend box, and annotations that sit on top of bars.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the undersized percentage in the title matches the data, the threshold line falls exactly on the bin edge, and every annotation clears the bars.
