Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "LED Meter" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: the spectrum analyzer on a piece of hi-fi studio gear. A brushed aluminum faceplate with screws, a recessed black display window, and bars made of discrete glowing LED segments.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Faceplate: brushed aluminum based on #B8BCC2, as a diagonal gradient #D3D6DA, #B8BCC2 (45%), #C9CCD1 (70%), #9DA2A9. A 2px inner highlight line in white at 50% and a 1px #5E636B outer edge.
- Engraved text on the faceplate: #23262B, with a white copy at 60% opacity 1.2px lower behind it so each letter has a light lip.
- Display window and readout windows: #0B0C0E. Window bezel: #6F747C, 4px wide, 12px radius; the window itself has a 9px radius and an inner shadow (2px down, 2px blur, black at 90%).
- LED ramp by segment height: #3DFF6E green for the lower 12 of 16 segments, #FFC21A amber for the next 2, #FF3B2F red for the top 2.
- Seven-segment readouts: #FFC21A for per-bar values, #FF3B2F for the master peak.
- Scale labels: #8A9099, with the 0 and -6 labels in #C9534B. Category labels: #C4C9D0. Small print: #5A6068.

Typography (Google Fonts): Oxanium.
- Title 34px 800 uppercase, letter-spacing 2px, engraved. Subtitle 14px 600 uppercase, letter-spacing 2.4px, engraved.
- Scale labels 13px 500. Category labels 14px 600, letter-spacing 1px. Small print 10px 500 uppercase, letter-spacing 1.6px.
- Numbers in readouts are not a font: draw seven-segment digits as hexagonal segment polygons (per-bar readouts: 9.5 x 19px digits, 2.3px segments, 14.5px pitch; master: 20 x 38px, 5px segments), skewed -6 degrees, with every unlit segment drawn as a faint ghost at 7% opacity, a round decimal point between cells, and a separate narrow minus bar in front of the digits.

Layout:
- Engraved title and subtitle top left on the metal. Top right, a recessed black readout window (248 x 72px, 8px radius) with the key figure in large red seven-segment digits, a stacked label ("MASTER / PEAK / dBFS" style, 11px 600, #7D838C) and a tiny unlit CLIP LED.
- Below, one large black display window (872 x 420px) holds the whole chart. Four Phillips screws in the faceplate corners (8.5px radius, radial gradient #F1F2F4 to #A9AEB5 to #7C818A, cross slot in #4A4F57, each rotated differently).
- A subtle glass reflection over the window: a diagonal white gradient from 7% to 2.5% that stops sharply at 42%.

Axes and grid:
- No gridlines. A vertical dB-style scale on the left of the window: 10px tick marks in #4B5058, 1.5px, aligned exactly to segment boundaries. Category labels under the readouts, units ("Hz") in #6A7079 after the last one.

Marks:
- Bar chart: each bar is a column of 16 LED segments (50px wide, about 12.6px tall, 5px gaps, 2px radius). A segment lights if the value exceeds its lower threshold. Lit segments get a top-half white shine (55% to 0) and a glow (6px Gaussian blur at 85% alpha merged under the segments, user-space filter region covering the whole canvas). Unlit segments stay visible in their ramp color at 10% fill and 8% stroke. Peak hold: light one extra lone segment at each bar's peak. Under each column, a 64 x 32px readout window (#050506, 1px #23262B border, 4px radius) with the value in amber seven-segment digits.
- Line chart: draw the line as a trace of lit LED dots (6px squares with 2px radius on a regular grid along the line), colored by the same green/amber/red ramp by height, with ghost dots at 10% filling the rest of each column, plus the same glow. Mark the maximum with a lone lit peak dot and a seven-segment readout.
- Legend: one line of small print in the window explaining the marks (for example "BAR = AVERAGE • LONE SEGMENT = PEAK HOLD"), source line right-aligned on the same row.

Avoid: smooth continuous bars, gradients inside segments, gridlines, soft pastel colors, proportional body fonts for numbers, and glows that clip at the window edge.

When you're done, render the chart and check that segment counts match the values, the seven-segment digits read correctly (decimal points visible, minus not touching digits), and the screws and window edges aren't clipped.
