Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Law Library" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: the cover of a leather-bound law report. Oxblood leather, gold leaf, blind tooling and the raised bands of a book spine. Old, heavy and precise.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Leather: #4A1418 (oxblood) base. Area fill and the dark tooling lines: #3A0F12. Light tooling lines: #5E2227.
- Gold leaf: #D4AF6A for lines, markers, labels and bands. Dim gold #A88A55 for subtitles, axis numbers and the source.
- The title is filled with a vertical gold gradient: #E8C987 at the top, #D4AF6A at 55%, #B08A48 at the bottom.

Typography (Google Fonts): EB Garamond throughout (400, 500, 600, 400 italic), lining figures (font-variant-numeric: lining-nums).
- Title: 27px 600, centered, gold gradient, stating the finding. Subtitle: 16px italic, dim gold, centered.
- Small caps for axis labels: uppercase at 10.5 to 13px, 500, with 2px letter-spacing.
- Axis numbers 13px dim gold. Annotations 14 to 15px 600 gold. Source 12.5px italic, centered.

Layout:
- Grain: fractal noise (baseFrequency 0.9, 2 octaves) mapped to a very dark red at about 30% effective opacity over the leather, and a radial vignette to 35% black at the corners.
- A blind-tooled double border: rectangles inset 18px (2.5px #3A0F12 with a 0.8px #5E2227 line 1.5px inside it) and 26px (1.2px #3A0F12 with a 0.6px #5E2227 line inside). No gold on the border.
- Raised bands: two groups of five horizontal gold lines from x = 64 to 896, the lines 4px apart with the middle one 2.4px thick and the others 0.8px. One group above the title, one below the subtitle, like the bands on a spine.
- Plot from x = 124 to 872, y = 200 to 480.

Axes and grid:
- Faint ruled gridlines: 0.5px gold at 22% opacity every round value; the baseline 1px gold at 80%.
- Y label "VOLUMES" (or the unit) in small caps above the axis numbers.
- X axis: roman-numeral labels (MDCCCXC, MCMX ...) in 13px 500 gold with 2px letter-spacing on 6px ticks, and the arabic year in 11.5px italic dim gold below each.

Marks:
- Line chart: a 2.2px gold line with round joins. Diamond markers at each point (3.4px half-diagonal) filled oxblood with a 1.2px gold outline; the peak or key point a 6px solid gold diamond with its value label ("5,940 in MCMXCV"). The area under the line filled #3A0F12 at 85%, so it reads as a darker pressed panel.
- Bar chart: square-cornered bars filled #3A0F12 with a 1.2px gold outline, the key bar solid gold, a small gold diamond above each bar top, and value labels in 13px gold.

Avoid: bright or metallic 3D effects, drop shadows, sans-serif type, gold on the tooled border, and more than one line color.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the grain is subtle (the leather must not look noisy at thumbnail size), gold text passes contrast on the oxblood, the roman numerals are correct, and the bands are evenly spaced.
