Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Laser Scan" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: the readout of a terrestrial laser survey. Near-black screen, data rendered as a dense cyan point cloud, one magenta alarm band where the measurement leaves tolerance, all set in a monospaced typeface with scan metadata in the corner. Technical, exact and a little cinematic without glow.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #0A0C0E (near black).
- Measured data: #4FD6E8 (cyan) at 90% opacity.
- Out-of-tolerance highlight: #E05BA8 (magenta): 38% fill between the tolerance line and the data, a 7% tint over the whole affected span, 0.8px boundary lines at 70% and a 1.2px bracket above the plot.
- Design or reference profile: #8A949C, 1.1px. Tolerance lines: #4A555D. Dotted grid: #2A3238. Secondary text: #7A858E. Title: #E8F1F4. Metadata values and legend text: #B8C4CB.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Space Mono for all text. Title 700, 25px, -0.6px letter-spacing, sentence case, stating the finding with its number. Eyebrow 11px uppercase with 1.5px letter-spacing using " // " separators. Subtitle 12.5px with measure and units. Axis labels 11px (signed values like "+20"). Small uppercase labels 10px with 1px letter-spacing. Callout 12px 700 plus an 11px detail line. Metadata block 10px.

Layout:
- 56px side margins. Eyebrow y 52, title y 92, subtitle y 120. Plot x 96 to 884, y 178 to 486.
- Metadata block in the top right (x 740 to 904, from y 44, 15px line pitch): keys left in #7A858E, values right-aligned in #B8C4CB (SCAN id, DATE, PTS, NOISE). Keep it clear of the title.
- Legend row at y 540, footer rule (1px #2A3238) at y 556, uppercase source on the left and scan parameters on the right at y 578.

Axes and grid:
- Sparse fine dotted grid (1px, dash 1 on 4 off) at round steps on both axes, running through the plot; no axis lines. Y labels right-aligned 12px left of the plot, x labels 22px below with the unit on the last one.
- Dashed tolerance lines (1px, 6 on 4 off) at plus and minus the tolerance, labeled once in 10px uppercase ("TOLERANCE ±15 mm").
- The design profile is a solid 1.1px gray line with a small uppercase label placed where no data points sit.

Marks:
- Line chart: draw the series as a point cloud rather than a stroked path: about 1,400 tiny 1.4px square points scattered along the curve with small seeded Gaussian noise (about 1.6 units), so the density itself draws the line. Where the curve exceeds tolerance, fill between the tolerance line and the smooth underlying curve in 38% magenta, tint the span, and bracket it above the plot with a bold magenta label giving the span ("BEYOND TOLERANCE 9.4–15.6 m"). Mark the extreme point with a small 18px magenta crosshair and a dashed leader to a two-line callout placed in empty space.
- Bar chart: each bar is a column of stacked tiny cyan points (1.4px squares on a jittered 3px lattice) rather than a solid fill, square top, starting at zero; bars whose value exceeds the tolerance get the magenta span tint and a solid magenta cap segment from the tolerance line to the bar top at 38%. Same dotted grid, tolerance lines and metadata block.

Avoid: glows, gradients, smooth stroked data lines, rounded fonts, more than one alarm color, and grid lines that are solid or dense.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the point cloud reads as a line at thumbnail size, the magenta span limits are computed from the data, the peak label and tolerance label do not sit on points, and the metadata block does not touch the title.
