Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Kintsugi" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a black stoneware bowl mended with gold. Quiet, precious and a little imperfect: the main series is a gold repair seam, the comparison a plain ash hairline, and the break in the data is shown as a crack.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Ground: #161514 with a radial overlay from #1D1B19 at the center (50%, 45%) to #161514, and about 700 clay flecks of radius 0.4 to 2.2px: 55% in #3A3531, the rest in #0C0B0A, each at 35 to 85% opacity.
- Repair gold: #D4AF37. Seam fill is a vertical gradient #F2DC8C to #D4AF37 (45%) to #9C7A1E. Highlight: #F2DC8C.
- Soft gold #D9C38A for the title and highlighted labels. Ash #6B6660 for the comparison line. Secondary text #8F877B. Gridlines #2A2725, zero line #3A3632.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Shippori Mincho 700 for the title (31px, #D9C38A) and the few value labels (16 to 20px, gold).
- Zen Kaku Gothic New for the subtitle (15px, #8F877B), legend (13px), tick labels and small numerals (12px) and notes (12px).

Layout:
- Title at x 64, y 76 stating the finding; subtitle at y 108; a one-line legend right-aligned at y 143 ending with the period-over-period change in 13px 500 gold.
- Plot from x 104 to 872, y 176 to 500. Source bottom left (y 572) and the two period totals bottom right.

Axes and grid:
- Four 1px horizontal gridlines in #2A2725, y labels right-aligned 16px left of the plot. No vertical grid. X labels 26px below the plot, the latest one in soft gold.

Marks:
- Line chart: the main series is a gold seam, not a stroke. Densify each straight segment into about 14 steps with a small perpendicular wobble (up to 1.1px, zero at the data points), then offset both sides along the normals by a width that wanders smoothly between 1.5 and 3.5px (a slow sine plus a little noise) and fill the resulting ribbon with the gold gradient. Under it, the same ribbon in #D4AF37 at 35% opacity blurred 2.2px for a faint glow. Along its upper edge, a 0.6px #F2DC8C highlight at 85% opacity. At every data point a gold droplet: an ellipse of radius 3.4px (5.5px for the latest point) with a small #FFF4CC glint up and to the left. The comparison series is a plain 1px #6B6660 hairline with no markers.
- Bar chart: flat #161514 bars outlined with nothing; instead each bar is a column of black glaze with a gold seam running up its center from the baseline to the value (same variable-width ribbon, 1.5 to 3.5px), capped with a gold droplet; comparison bars are 1px #6B6660 outlines.
- Fracture: at the steepest drop, branch a hairline crack off the seam about 40% along the falling segment: a jagged polyline of six short segments (1.2px gold at 90%) heading away from the line into empty space, with two 0.6px twigs.

Labels and annotation:
- Label the latest value and the low point in Shippori Mincho gold; explain the low point in a two-line 12px #8F877B note beside it.

Avoid: a uniform-width gold line, bright glows, gradients on the ground beyond the gentle center lift, more than one metallic color, and a crack that crosses text.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the seam visibly thickens and thins, the fracture leaves the steepest drop, the totals and percentage are arithmetically right, and the flecks stay subtle at thumbnail size.
