Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Journal Themes" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: the quarterly look-back of a reflective writing app. Warm, literary and intimate: a dark warm page, terracotta bars and the user's own words quoted under each theme.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #1D1B1A (dark warm gray). Bar tracks: #2A2725.
- Bars: #D98B6C (soft terracotta). The top item only: #F7B77F (brighter apricot) for its bar, its name and its count.
- Ink #F1E9E2; secondary text and quotes #9A908A. Eyebrow in #D98B6C. Row separators #FFFFFF at 6% opacity; value axis line #F1E9E2 at 35%.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Libre Caslon Display 400, 38px, #F1E9E2 for the title stating the finding; 16px apricot for the footer takeaway.
- Nunito Sans for everything else: eyebrow 12px 700 uppercase with 2.6px letter-spacing; subtitle 15px #9A908A; category names 16px 600 (700 apricot for the top one); example phrases 13px italic #9A908A in curly quotes, 19px below the name; counts 15px 700; source 12px.

Layout:
- 56px margins. Eyebrow at y 64, title at 110, subtitle at 140.
- Rows 52px apart from y 176; a left label column from x 56 (name over a short example phrase) and bars from x 348 to a track end at x 860.
- A 1px row separator under each row spanning x 56 to 904; a 1px vertical line at the bars' start.
- Footer at y 572: source note left, a computed takeaway ("47% of entries mention work") right in the display serif.

Axes and grid:
- No gridlines and no value axis labels: counts sit at the bar ends. Only the vertical start line.

Marks:
- Bar chart: horizontal bars 16px tall with fully rounded right ends (radius 8) and flat left ends at the start line, over a full-length #2A2725 track with the same radius. Count 12px past the bar end.
- Line chart: 2.5px #D98B6C smooth lines (the highlighted series #F7B77F at 3px), 5px end dots, each series named at its end in Nunito Sans 600 with a short italic phrase beneath in #9A908A.

Avoid: cool colors, more than one highlight, bold sans titles, gridlines, legends and pure black or pure white.

When you're done, render the chart and check that only the top item is apricot, every phrase fits in the label column without touching the bars, and the footer percentage is arithmetically right.
