Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Joint Strength" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a materials-testing sheet from a fine furniture workshop. Dark walnut ground, wood-toned curves, one bright brass winner and small technical line drawings in the key. Serious, crafted and quietly premium.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #231811 (dark walnut).
- Series, in order: #F4B92C (brass, reserved for the best or highlighted series), #A77B45 (oak), #8FB3B0 (ash), #C8553D (cherry), #EADBB4 (maple). Keep adjacent series in this order.
- Eyebrow: #C9A15A. Title: #F3E6CC. Secondary text: #A28F78. Gridlines: #3A2A1F; zero line and tick marks: #6B5645; key dividers #34261C and #4A382B. Footer #7F6D59.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Crimson Pro 600 for the title (33px, #F3E6CC, stating the finding with the computed ratio).
- Karla for everything else: eyebrow 11.5px 700 uppercase with 2.2px letter-spacing; subtitle 15.5px naming both measures and units; tick labels 13px; axis unit labels 12 to 13px; key names 15.5px 700 in the series color; key detail 13.5px #A28F78; end-of-line value labels 13px 700 in the series color (15px for brass); source 12px.

Layout:
- Eyebrow at y 50, title baseline about y 94, subtitle about y 124, all at x 56.
- Plot on the left (about x 84 to 628, y 164 to 492). A key column on the right starting at x 676: a small caps header, a 1px rule, then one 62px row per series with a 40 x 26 line drawing, the name, and a detail line; thin rules between rows. A small cream cross with "marks the point of failure" below the key.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal gridlines at every integer y value (1px #3A2A1F), no vertical gridlines, no axis lines except the 1px #6B5645 zero line and 5px tick marks along it. Unit label ("kN") above the y labels and the x-axis title right-aligned under the x ticks.

Marks:
- Line chart: smooth monotone curves, 2.2px round caps; the brass series 3.4px and drawn last so it sits on top. Each line ends in an x-shaped failure mark (two 11px diagonal strokes in the series color, 2px; 14px and 2.6px for brass) with a wider #231811 knock-out stroke underneath, and the end value printed just to its right.
- Bar chart: square-ended bars about 55% of the band in the series colors, brass for the top bar only; each bar capped by the same small x mark 10px above its end with the value beside it; the key column with line drawings stays.
- Line drawings in the key: 1.3px outline sketches in the series color showing each category (for joints: tenon entering a mortise, two dowels bridging two blocks, an angled pocket screw, an elliptical biscuit, an L-shaped butt corner).

Avoid: glow, gradients, neon colors, heavy boxes, rainbow palettes, a second y axis, and placing names on the lines when a key column is present.

When you're done, render the chart and check that brass is used for only one series, every curve ends in a failure mark with a readable value, the drawings are recognisable at thumbnail size, and the title ratio matches the data.
