Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Jacquard" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a length of figured silk from an old weaving house. A deep aubergine ground with a barely visible pomegranate damask, lines woven in antique gold and dusty rose, a gold selvedge edge and woven ribbon labels. Luxurious, quiet and precise.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Ground: #2A1A26 (aubergine). Damask motif: #35222F fill and #33212F lattice (tone on tone, never brighter).
- Series 1: #C9A45C (antique gold). Series 2: #C98A8F (dusty rose). Comparison series: #8F8C93 (pewter).
- Twill strands: gold light #E9D39E and dark #8A6C32; rose light #E6BDC0 and dark #8E5A60.
- Title and year labels: #EADFCF. Secondary text and tick labels: #A8979F. Gridlines: #EADFCF at 12%.

Typography (Google Fonts), lining figures everywhere:
- Cormorant Garamond: title italic 600 36px stating the finding; subtitle 500 18px; comparison label italic 500 15px; ribbon values 600 16px; source italic 14px.
- Cormorant SC (true small caps) for axis and ribbon labels: tick labels 500 15px; axis title 600 14px with 1.5px letter-spacing; year labels 600 16px with 2px letter-spacing; ribbon names 600 14px with 1px letter-spacing; footer note 500 13px.

Layout:
- Selvedge frame: a 1px gold rectangle 18px in from the canvas edge and a 0.5px gold dashed (2 on 2) rectangle at 45% just inside it, 5px further in.
- Title at x 56, subtitle below, then a small ornament: two 64px gold hairlines with a gold lozenge between them.
- Plot about x 96 to 736, y 178 to 470; the ribbons and comparison label to its right; source at bottom left and a small-caps note at bottom right, inside the frame.

Texture:
- Damask: a 120 x 150 px repeat of an ogee lattice (5px stroke) enclosing a stylized pomegranate (a 17px circle with a crowned top, two side leaves and a stem), with half-drop copies at the corners.
- Sheen: a radial overlay from white at 5% (upper left) to black at 30% (edges).

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal gridlines only; no y-axis line. Small-caps tick labels 12px left of the plot.
- A 1px gold baseline at 70% with 8px gold ticks at each year start and the year centered under its span.

Marks:
- Line chart: each main line is a two-strand twill: a 2.8px line in the series color, then a 1px light strand dashed 3 on 3 shifted 0.6px up and a 1px dark strand dashed 3 on 3 (offset 3) shifted 0.6px down, so the strands alternate like woven thread. Small lozenge markers (6.8 x 10 px diamonds, 1px ground-colored edge) at every third point. The comparison series is a 1.6px pewter dotted line (1 on 3.5, round caps) with no markers.
- Bar chart: bars filled in the series color with the same light and dark dashed twill strands running vertically every 4px at 50% opacity, square corners, a 1px ground gap between adjacent bars, and a lozenge centered on each bar top.
- Ribbon labels: at each main line's end, a 1px connector to a 158 x 24 px ribbon in the series color with a swallowtail notch (8px deep) on the right end, a tiny woven overlay (alternating 2 x 1 px dark and light flecks at 12%), dashed ground-colored stitching 3px inside the top and bottom edges, the name in small caps and the final value right-aligned, both in the ground color. The comparison series gets a plain italic pewter label instead.

Avoid: bright or saturated colors, glows, thick strokes, a visible damask that competes with the data, and a legend box.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the twill strands read as texture rather than dashes at full size, ribbons do not collide with each other, the damask stays tone on tone, and the title's claim is arithmetically true for the data.
