Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "J-Curve" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: the cash flow page of a private equity or venture fund's LP report, set at night. Sober and precise: a bone white line on dark slate, muted brick for money going out, muted teal for money coming back.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #111418 (dark slate) for the whole canvas.
- Main line, dots and zero-crossing marker: #EDE6D8 (bone white).
- Fill below zero: #A4524A (muted brick) at 55% opacity. Fill above zero: #3F8C86 (muted teal) at 50% opacity. Zone labels in lighter tints: #E3A79F on brick, #9ED6D0 on teal.
- Readout accent: #7FC4BD for the TVPI figure. Box and rules: #4A515B. Gridlines: #262B32. Secondary text: #8A9099; source #6A717B.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Gloock 400 for the title (30px, bone, stating when the fund turned positive) and the two readout figures (32px).
- Hanken Grotesk for everything else: eyebrow 11.5px 600 uppercase with 2.6px letter-spacing; subtitle 15px #8A9099; readout labels 10.5px 600 uppercase, 1.8px letter-spacing; readout notes 11px; axis labels 12 to 12.5px; zone labels 11px 600 uppercase with 2px letter-spacing plus a 12px detail line; breakeven callout 13px 700 plus 12px; end value 14px 700; source 12px.

Layout:
- 56px side margins. Eyebrow, title and subtitle at top left; a thin-ruled readout box (222 x 104, 1px #4A515B, no fill) at top right, split by a vertical rule into two cells: "NET IRR" and "TVPI", each with its big Gloock figure and a small note under it.
- Plot from x 96 to 900, y 196 to 516; the x axis is labeled in fund years ("Close", "Y1" ... "Y12") with the breakeven year in 700 bone.

Axes and grid:
- 1px #262B32 horizontal gridlines; signed y labels ("+100", "0", "−100" with a true minus sign) right-aligned 14px left of the plot, the zero label in bone. The zero line itself is 1px bone at 70% opacity. No vertical gridlines, no axis lines.

Marks:
- Line chart: a 2.75px bone line through yearly points using a monotone smooth curve, open 3px-radius dots (slate fill, 1.5px bone stroke) at each year. Fill the area between the line and zero, clipped at zero so the part below is brick and the part above teal. Mark the zero crossing with an 11px-radius bone ring and a 3.5px solid dot, with a thin 1px leader down and right to a "Breakeven" callout. Label the final value at the line end.
- Bar chart: one bar per fund year from zero, square-cornered and about 55% of the band, brick (#A4524A, full opacity) below zero and teal (#3F8C86) above zero, with a 1.5px bone line connecting the bar ends as a running cumulative total; keep the readout box and the breakeven ring on the zero line.

Avoid: bright reds or greens, glows, gradients, a legend, dual axes, and calendar years in place of fund years.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the fills switch exactly at zero, the breakeven marker sits on the actual crossing, the IRR and TVPI are computed from the cash flows (plus any remaining NAV), and the title does not run into the readout box.
