Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Iteration Log" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a page from an industrial design studio's sketchbook that logs each prototype build. Gray studio paper with a dot grid, one thick safety orange line, numbered prototype tags and a caption band that says what changed in each build. Practical, confident, a little hand-made but precise.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Paper: #EDEDEB for the whole canvas, overlaid with a dot grid of 1px radius dots in #C4C4BF every 16px.
- Data line and accent: #FF5A1F (safety orange). Also the small square before the eyebrow and the tag of the latest build.
- Ink: #1D1D1B for the title, value labels, tags, leaders, band outline and the baseline.
- Secondary text: #6B6B66. Gridlines and band dividers: #CFCFCA.
- Caption band fill: #FFFFFF at 72% opacity so the dot grid ghosts through.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Unbounded 600 for the title only: 29px, -0.6px letter-spacing, sentence case, stating the finding with the number ("Test score rose 31 points in nine prototypes").
- Archivo for everything else: eyebrow 11.5px 700 uppercase with 2.2px letter-spacing (project code and product, preceded by a 10px orange square); a right-aligned "ITERATION LOG" in 600 #6B6B66; subtitle 15px 400 #6B6B66 with measure, scale and sample; y labels 12px 500; value labels 15px 700 (the latest 18px 800); tags 11px 700 white with 0.6px letter-spacing; captions 12.5px, first line 600 ink, second line 400 gray; footer 12px, folio 11px 600 with 2px letter-spacing ("SHEET 3 OF 5").

Layout:
- 48px side margins. Eyebrow at y 50, title at y 98, subtitle at y 128.
- Plot from about y 176 to y 398, x 112 to 862, with nine evenly spaced builds.
- Caption band: a full-width box (48 to 912) from y 446 to 530 with a 1px ink outline, split into one column per build by short 1px #CFCFCA dividers inset 10px top and bottom.
- Footer at y 568: "Source: ..." left, folio right.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal gridlines only, 1px #CFCFCA, every 10 points; the bottom one is the baseline in 1.2px ink. Y labels at the far left margin in 12px 500 #6B6B66. No y-axis line.
- No x-axis labels: each build is named by its tag and caption in the band.

Marks:
- Line chart: a 6px #FF5A1F line with straight segments and round joins and caps. Each point is a 6.5px radius circle in paper color with a 3px orange ring; the latest point is solid orange, r 8, with a 2px ink ring. Value labels 18px above each point, or 30px below it when the value dipped from the previous build.
- From every point a 0.8px ink leader at 60% opacity, dashed 2 on 3 off, drops to the band.
- Where each leader meets the band, a 30 x 20px tag with 3px corner radius sits on the band's top edge: ink fill, white "P1" to "P9"; the latest tag orange. Under it, a two-line caption naming the change made in that build.
- Bar chart: slim ink-outlined bars in #FF5A1F (about 40% of the slot), square corners, starting at zero, each with the same numbered tag and caption band below; the latest bar solid orange and the earlier ones orange at 55% opacity, with value labels above in Archivo 15px 700.

Avoid: gradients, shadows, rounded plot frames, a legend, extra accent colors, and captions longer than two short lines.

When you're done, render the chart and check that every leader lands on its tag, the captions stay inside their band columns, dip labels sit below their points, and the dot grid stays faint enough that the orange line dominates.
