Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Irrigation" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a farm water-management console at night. Dark soil-brown background, water in cool blues, demand in warm amber, and monospaced figures like a field controller's readout.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #1E1712 (dark soil brown). Panels and badges: #2A211A.
- Primary series: #18A4B8 (irrigation cyan). Secondary series stacked on top: #B7CCF2 (pale rain blue).
- Target or demand line and warning markers: #F2A93B (amber).
- Text: #EDE3D6 (cream) for the title and legend; #A09080 for secondary text and axis labels. Gridlines #3A2F26.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- IBM Plex Sans for words: title 28px 600 cream stating the finding, subtitle 15px #A09080 with measure and unit, legend 13px, notes 12px.
- IBM Plex Mono for figures and IDs: axis labels 11.5px, the badge text 11.5px 500 with 0.8px letter-spacing, totals 13px 600 in their series colors under 9.5px uppercase labels with 1px letter-spacing.

Layout:
- 48px side margins. Top left: an ID badge (26px tall, 4px radius, #2A211A fill, 1px cyan border, a 4px cyan dot, uppercase mono text), followed by a one-line context note in #A09080.
- Title and subtitle under it. Then a legend row on the left (14px square swatches, a mini step line for the demand series and a small triangle for warnings) and a totals panel on the right (#2A211A, 4px radius) with one mono figure per series in its color.
- Source line at the bottom left, a small mono uppercase note at the bottom right.

Axes and grid:
- 1px #3A2F26 horizontal gridlines, a 1px #A09080 baseline, mono y labels right-aligned with the unit ("mm") above the top label.
- Mono day numbers under every other bar. Under each period where supply fell short of demand, a 10px amber triangle about 40px below the baseline, with a small amber "Short" row label at the left.

Marks:
- Bar chart: square-cornered stacked bars at 62% of the band, primary series at the bottom, the secondary series on top separated by a 1.5px gap. A step line for demand drawn over the bars: 2px amber with a 4.5px background-colored casing under it at 70% opacity so it stays readable across the bars. The step changes at band edges.
- Line chart: the primary series as a 2.4px cyan line with a 12% cyan area, the secondary as a 1.8px pale blue line, demand as the same amber step line with its dark casing, and the same deficit triangles under the axis.
- Annotate one notable period with its value in mono 600 in the series color and a short 12px #A09080 note above it.

Avoid: gradients, glows, rounded bars, green for water, a legend inside the plot, and any warning color other than amber.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the deficit triangles appear exactly on periods where the stacked total is below demand, the count in the title matches them, the totals panel sums the data, and the badge text fits inside its border.
