Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Investigator Funding" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: an analytical portfolio review on a near-black page with a single warm copper accent. Spare and editorial: the distribution does the talking, the tail quietly fades to gray.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #0F0F12. Note card: #17171B with a #2C2C32 border and a 3px copper left edge.
- Accent and main data: #D97745 (copper). Tail data: blend from copper toward #4A4A52 (gray), starting at 45% of the way and reaching full gray over the tail.
- Text: #EDEAE6; secondary #8C8883; source #5F5B56. Gridlines #232328; baseline and ticks #5A5650.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Space Grotesk for the eyebrow (500, 11px, uppercase, 2px letter-spacing, #8C8883, preceded by a 28 x 3px copper bar), title (600, 30px, -0.6px letter-spacing, #EDEAE6, stating the finding), note heading (600, 15px) and reference labels (700, 11 to 12px caps, 1.2px letter-spacing).
- Hanken Grotesk for subtitle (15px #8C8883), axis labels (12px), bar values (600, 12px), note body (13px) and source (12px).

Layout:
- 48px margins. Eyebrow y 45, title y 88, subtitle y 116. Plot from y 190 to a baseline at y 470, x 84 to 904. A note card in the empty upper right (284 x 84px) explains the tail. Source at the bottom left.

Axes and grid:
- 1px #232328 horizontal gridlines at round steps, y labels 12px right-aligned, a small "PIs" (or unit) caption above the axis. Baseline 1px #5A5650 with 5px ticks and labels at every other bin edge.

Marks:
- Bar chart (histogram): touching bins with 3px gaps and square corners, copper up to the 90th percentile and fading to gray beyond it. Count labels above each bin (white, or gray in the tail) with a background-colored halo. A 1.5px white vertical median rule from above the plot to the baseline with "MEDIAN $275K" in caps and the mean below it in gray; a 1px copper dashed (3 3) 90th-percentile rule behind the bars with its caps label in copper.
- Line chart: a 2.5px copper line (or a density curve) with a copper area at 15% opacity, switching to gray for the tail beyond the 90th percentile, with the same median and percentile rules.

Avoid: more than one accent hue, glows, gradients inside bars, rounded bars, and a legend.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the median and percentile are computed from the binned data, the mean-minus-median in the note matches the rounded labels, the tail fade starts at the 90th percentile, and no label crosses a rule.
