Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

  • Field gray#5D6776
  • Chip panel#141922

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Interval Splits" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a downhill race broadcast graphic. Near-black, condensed uppercase type, hard edges and timing-board chips: the reference competitor is a bright white line pinned at zero, the home favorite glows ice blue, and everyone else recedes to gray.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #0B0E13 (near black). Header bar and chips: #141922. Grid: #232A35; timing-gate lines #3A4453.
- Reference series (winner): #FFFFFF. Highlighted series (home racer): #7FDBFF (ice blue), also used for the header accent stripe, the title accent bar and the "AHEAD" zone label.
- All other series: #5D6776. Secondary text: #8C96A5.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Barlow Condensed for all display text: header bar 600 17px uppercase, 2px letter-spacing, white; title 700 36px uppercase, 0.3px letter-spacing, white, stating the finding ("SOLBERG LED BY 0.31 S AT I2, THEN FADED TO THIRD"); gate labels 700 16px; axis numbers 500 15px (the zero label 700 white); distance labels 500 14px; chip text 600 16px with rank and gap in 700.
- Barlow 400 for the 16px #8C96A5 subtitle and the 12px footer.

Layout:
- A 40px #141922 header bar across the top with an 8px #7FDBFF stripe at its left edge, event name left and "OFFICIAL TIMING" right in #8C96A5.
- A 6 x 64 px #7FDBFF accent bar at x 40, y 66, with the title (y 96) and subtitle (y 126) 20px to its right.
- Plot from x 96 to 736 and y 196 to 506. Result chips from x 760 to 932.
- Footer: 1px #232A35 rule at y 548, source left, a tiny key right (14 x 4 bars in ice blue "Home racer" and white "Winner").

Axes and grid:
- Y is time behind the reference in seconds, with ahead (negative) at the top and behind at the bottom; label ticks with signs (−0.4, −0.2, 0.0, +0.2 ...) using a true minus sign. Horizontal 1px #232A35 gridlines.
- Tint the ahead zone (above zero) with #7FDBFF at 5% opacity and label it "AHEAD OF WINNER" (600, 13px, 1.6px letter-spacing, ice blue at 70%).
- One vertical line per timing point: 1.5px #3A4453 for intermediate gates, 1px #232A35 for start and finish. Gate names sit in 34 x 22 #141922 boxes (rx 3, 1px #3A4453 border) above the plot; start/finish names plain in #8C96A5. Distances ("1.46 km") under the baseline.

Marks:
- Line chart: straight segments between timing points. Field series 2px #5D6776 with 3px-radius dots; the home racer 3.5px #7FDBFF and the reference 3.5px #FFFFFF, each over a 7.5px #0B0E13 halo, with 4.5px-radius dots ringed 1.5px in the background color. Draw field first, then home, then the reference on top. Label the home racer's best point with its value in 700 18px ice blue.
- Bar chart: horizontal bars of each competitor's final gap from a zero baseline at the left, 22px tall, square corners: #5D6776 for the field, #7FDBFF for the home racer, and the reference shown as a white 3px tick at zero with its absolute time. Gap labels in the chip style at the bar ends.
- Result chips at the right, aligned to each series' final value and linked by a 1px leader: 172 x 24, rx 3, a 24px rank box at the left, name, and gap right-aligned ("+0.38"; the reference shows its absolute time). Field chips #141922 with #C9D0DA text; the home chip filled #7FDBFF and the reference chip filled #FFFFFF, both with #0B0E13 text.

Avoid: smoothing the lines, gradients, glows, rounded bar ends, sentence-case display type, and any color besides white and ice blue for emphasis.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the reference line sits exactly on zero, the chips do not overlap (nudge them apart and keep the leaders), the minus signs are true minus signs, and the title's gap and placing match the data.
