Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Ink Swatches" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a fountain pen enthusiast's ink test laid out on a slate-blue desk. Elegant and a little collectible: glossy ink colors with sheen, pooled dots and hand-swabbed swatch cards.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Desk: #1B2230 with a very faint cool noise grain (about 5% alpha).
- Inks in series order, each with a sheen color: oxblood #C0465A (sheen #E7B35A), violet-black #9A86D8 (sheen #D8C9FF), sepia #C0925E (sheen #E9C99A), teal #2E9E8F (sheen #E05C8C), turquoise #5FC9E6 (sheen #F08A6A).
- Primary text #E9E4DA. Secondary text #98A2B6. Gridlines #2C3547, baseline #4A5468. Swatch cards #EEE7D8 with #2A2A33 names.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Instrument Serif italic for the title (40px, stating the finding) and the ink names on the swatch cards (19px).
- Hanken Grotesk for everything else: subtitle 16px, axis numbers and ticks 13px, end values 14px 600 in the ink color, source 12px.

Layout:
- Title top left at x 64; directly beneath it a nib-stroke underline: a filled tapered shape about 450px long in the first ink color, 0 at both ends and swelling to about 5px, like a flex nib stroke.
- Subtitle below the underline, plot on the left (x 104 to 700), and the legend as a column of five swatch cards on the right (x 780, 140 x 76, 12px apart, each rotated between -1.5 and 1.4 degrees, 2px radius, soft 4px shadow).
- Each card holds a ragged swab: a 108 x 30 blob with jagged top and bottom edges filled with the ink at 90% opacity, a short curved sheen stroke (2.4px) at its right end, and the ink name underneath.
- Cards are stacked in the same order the lines end, top to bottom, which doubles as secondary encoding.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal gridlines only (1px #2C3547) at round values, the top one carrying the unit ("30 s"); 5px ticks under the baseline at each x value, and an axis title right-aligned under the x labels.

Marks:
- Line chart: smooth monotone curves, 3.2px ink stroke with round caps; beneath each, a 3px sheen-color copy at 70% opacity offset 0.6px right and 1.6px up so a thin sheen edge shows on top. At each data point an ink-pooling dot: a 5 to 6px ellipse of the ink plus a radial gradient overlay that darkens toward the rim (0% at center, 12% at 70%, 38% black at the edge). The last value labeled 12px past the end in the ink color.
- Bar chart: square-based bars in the ink colors with 2px rounded tops, a 2px sheen-color strip along each bar's left edge, and a pooled darker band (radial gradient) at the bar top; values above in the ink color.

Avoid: neon or pure saturated primaries, white backgrounds, a boxed legend, heavy gridlines, and more than one serif.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the sheen edge reads as a thin highlight rather than a second line, the swatch card order matches the line end order, and end labels don't collide.
