Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Ink Hours" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a comic studio's production log on a dark wall screen. Charcoal, blue pencil, white ink and a flat magenta color pass; a marker-written headline, and one issue framed like a panel because it mattered.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #141414 (charcoal).
- Stack colors from the bottom: #6FA8DC (blue pencil), #FFFFFF (ink white), #E0569B (warm magenta).
- Text: #EDEAE3 (off-white); secondary text #8E8A83; gridlines #2B2B2B.
- The highlight frame: #FFFFFF.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Permanent Marker for the title (34px, sentence case, stating the finding) and the big side-note numbers (26px; the key one in #E0569B).
- Overpass for everything else: subtitle 15px #8E8A83, axis labels 13px, category labels 15px 600 (800 for the highlighted one), per-bar figures 16px 800 with a 9px 600 unit line ("HRS/PG", 1px letter-spacing), small caps headers 11px 700 with 1.6px letter-spacing, side notes 14px, source 12px.

Layout:
- 40px margins. Title and subtitle at top left, the chart in the left three quarters, a right column (starting about x 744) with a stacked legend (top layer listed first, 18px squares), a 1.5px rule, then two big-number side notes.
- A small "HOURS" axis title above the y labels.

Axes and grid:
- 1px #2B2B2B horizontal gridlines every 50 units, y labels outside at the left, a 1.2px #8E8A83 baseline. No vertical gridlines.

Marks:
- Bar chart: stacked square-cornered bars 44px wide, starting at zero, with 2px charcoal gaps between segments. A derived figure (total divided by pages) above each bar. The key bar is framed by a 4px #FFFFFF rectangle that spans from above its figure to below its label, with a solid white tab across the top reading "DEADLINE" in 11px 800 charcoal caps.
- Line chart: one 3px line per stage in the same three colors with 6px dots, a thin charcoal halo so they separate, and the same white panel frame around the key period.

Avoid: gradients, glows, rounded bars, extra accent colors, and dual axes (put derived figures as labels, not on a second scale).

When you're done, render the chart and check that the white ink segment still separates from its neighbors through the charcoal gaps, the frame doesn't touch the neighboring bars, and the side-note numbers match the data.
