Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Inflow Season" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a river authority's seasonal inflow report, printed on warm paper. Editorial and gentle: a high-contrast serif headline, glacier blues, a soft seasonal bracket and one rust-colored threshold.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #FBF8F3 (warm white).
- Current period: #1D5B86 (deep river blue). Comparison or average: #9CC9DD (glacier blue); its value labels use #4E87A6 for legibility.
- Threshold (minimum release, floor, target): #B0622E (rust).
- Ink: #1F2A33. Secondary text: #6B7178. Gridlines: #E7E1D7.
- Season band: #9CC9DD at 12% opacity.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Playfair Display 700, 33px, #1F2A33 for the title, sentence case, stating the finding. Playfair Display italic 400 for the season bracket label (16px, #1D5B86) and short narrative notes near marks (14px, #1F2A33).
- Nunito Sans for everything else: eyebrow 12px 700 uppercase with 2.2px letter-spacing in #1D5B86; subtitle 15px #6B7178; legend 14px (current 700, average 600); axis numbers 13px; month labels 13.5px 600 #1F2A33; peak values 14px 800; threshold note 12.5px (first line 700) in #B0622E; source 12px.

Layout:
- 56px margins. Eyebrow at y 50, title at y 92, subtitle at y 120, legend at y 158 with 14px swatches (2px radius).
- Plot from x 104 to 904, y 214 to 500. The unit ("m³/s") in 12px 700 above the value axis.
- The season (e.g. snowmelt, April to July) is a pale vertical band behind its months, topped 18px above the plot by a 1.2px #1D5B86 bracket with 8px drop ends, its italic label centered on the bracket on a page-colored knockout.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal 1px #E7E1D7 gridlines at round values, numbers right aligned 12px left of the plot; no vertical grid. A 1.2px #1F2A33 baseline.

Marks:
- Bar chart: grouped pairs, average on the left and current on the right, each 22px wide with a 3px gap, 3px top-rounded corners, starting at zero. Label only the peak of each series above its bar. The threshold is a 1.8px #B0622E dotted line (1 on, 4 off, round caps) across the plot, labeled in two lines at the right with a 1px rust leader down to the line.
- Line chart: current as a 2.6px #1D5B86 line with 4px dots at each month, average as a 2.6px #9CC9DD line behind it, a light #9CC9DD area (25% opacity) under the average; same season band, bracket, dotted threshold and peak labels.

Avoid: harsh black, gradients, shadows, heavy borders, dual axes, and labeling every bar.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the bracket label sits on its knockout without the line crossing the text, the threshold note does not touch any bar, and the peak months and values quoted in the title and notes match the data.
