Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Inflation Target" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a formal inflation bulletin from a monetary authority. Sober, precise and tabular, on a clean white page with a thin forest green band across the top.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #FFFFFF. Top band: 8px of #14532D (forest green) across the full width.
- Primary series, target line, eyebrow, markers and table rule: #14532D.
- Secondary series: #6B7280 (gray).
- Tolerance band fill: #E3EFE6, with its edge gridlines in #B9D2C0.
- Ink #1C1F1D, secondary text #5F6660, rules #D5DAD6.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Spectral 600 for the title (29px, ink, a finding with a count, e.g. "left the target band in 10 of 36 months") and the table heading (16px).
- Libre Franklin for everything else: eyebrow 11px 600 uppercase with 2.2px letter-spacing (green left, bulletin number right in #5F6660); subtitle 14px #5F6660; legend 12px 600; axis labels 12px (January labels 600 ink with year, other ticks 400 month only); table headers 10px 600 uppercase with 1.4px letter-spacing; table cells 13px (period 600); source 11px.

Layout:
- 56px side margins. Eyebrow row with a 1px rule under it, then title and subtitle, then a one-line legend (thick green line "Headline", thin gray line "Core", band swatch with a dashed green line "2% target and 1–3% tolerance band").
- The chart occupies the upper half (about y 162 to 368). Right of the plot, label the band: "Upper 3%", "Target 2%" (600 green) and "Lower 1%" (12px).
- Below the chart, a small table titled "Months outside the tolerance band" with a 1.5px green top rule, header row, 1px rule and 25px rows with 0.6px dividers. Columns: No., Period, Months, Side, Headline extreme, Core same month.
- Source line at the bottom left.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal gridlines at whole percents: 1px ink zero baseline, #B9D2C0 0.8px at the band edges, #D5DAD6 elsewhere. The target as a 1.2px green dashed line (5 on, 4 off).
- Month ticks every 6 months, 5px long.

Marks:
- Line chart: the headline as a 3.5px green line with round joins and caps; the secondary series as a 2px gray line drawn beneath it. Points outside the band get white-filled 3.6px circles with a 2px green stroke. Each breach episode is numbered with a 9px-radius solid green circle and white 11px 700 number placed 20px above (or below) its extreme point; the same numbered circle starts that episode's table row.
- Bar chart: square-cornered green bars over the same shaded band and dashed target line; bars whose value falls outside the band get a white 1.5px inner stripe at the top and a numbered green marker, and the secondary series becomes a 2px gray tick across each bar.

Avoid: gradients, shadows, bright accent colors, heavy gridlines, rounded corners, and a boxed legend.

When you're done, render the chart and check that every numbered marker matches its table row, the counts in the title and table are arithmetically right, and the band edges are clearly legible.
