Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Index Study" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a markets research terminal chart after dark. Crisp, restrained and quantitative: thin lines, one bright reference line at 100 and tinted territory above and below it.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #0E1420 (near-black blue).
- Series: #BFD7EA (ice), #5BD1A5 (mint), #F07167 (coral), in that order of importance to your data.
- Baseline at 100: #FFFFFF, dashed.
- Above-base tint: #5BD1A5 at 6% opacity. Below-base tint: #F07167 at 8% opacity.
- Title #E8EEF5, secondary text #8D9AAE, gridlines #243044, pin label box #1B2536 with a #3A4860 border.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Space Grotesk 600 at 29px for the title, -0.4px letter-spacing, stating the finding.
- Manrope for everything else: subtitle 15px #8D9AAE ("... , monthly, January 2020 = 100"); legend 600 13px; axis labels 500 12.5px (the "100" label 700 white); tag values 800 13px in the background color; tag names 600 13px in the series color; annotations 600 12px; corner labels "ABOVE BASE" / "BELOW BASE" 700 10px with 1.8px letter-spacing; footer 12px.

Layout:
- 56px side margins. Title baseline y 62, subtitle y 90, legend (22px line swatches, 2.5px) at y 118.
- Plot from x 88 to x 780 and y 150 to y 510; the right margin holds the value tags.

Axes and grid:
- Every series rebased so its first value is exactly 100.
- Gridlines only at 50-point steps (1px #243044), y labels right-aligned 12px left of the plot. The line at 100 is replaced by the white 1.5px dashed baseline (6 on, 4 off) drawn above the data.
- Year ticks 5px below the plot with labels just right of each tick.

Marks:
- Line chart: 2px lines with round joins and caps, straight segments, no markers, clipped to the plot.
- Bar chart: bars grow up or down from the 100 baseline rather than from zero (index minus 100), 2px gaps within groups, each series in its color at full opacity, over the same green/red territory tints.
- A start-date pin: a white-ringed circle (r 5, 2px) at the first point on 100, a 1px white stem rising to a small rounded label box (138 x 24, radius 3) reading "Base = 100, Jan 2020" placed in empty space.
- Right-edge value tags: a pointed tag (8px point, 40 x 22 body) in each series color with the latest value in the background color, a 1px leader from the line end, and the series name beside it in the series color. Nudge tags apart to at least 30px.
- Mark the most extreme point of the most volatile series with a 3px dot and a short label ("Peak 236, Apr 2022").

Avoid: markers on every point, smoothing, gridlines between the 50-point steps, glow effects, and gradients.

When you're done, render the chart and check every series starts exactly at 100, the tints split exactly at 100, the pin label and tags touch no lines, and the title claims hold for the final values.
