Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Index Card" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a ruled index card pulled from a card-file drawer and laid on a kraft paper desk. Typewritten, orderly and archival, with one rubber-stamp flourish.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Desk: #D8C29D kraft with a faint brown fractal-noise grain (about 22% alpha, fine frequency).
- Card: #FFFDF7, 10px corner radius, soft drop shadow (blur 7px, offset 3px right and 6px down, 28% black).
- Header rule and stamp: #C8414B.
- Ruled lines: #B5CBE6, 1px, full card width.
- Bars: #2F4A6D (muted navy). Primary text #2A2A2A, secondary text #6F6A62.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Zilla Slab 700 at 32px for the card title, stating the finding.
- Courier Prime for everything else: subtitle 16px #6F6A62 (measure, unit, total), column headers 13px 700 uppercase with 2px letter-spacing, category labels 18px, values 18px 700, stamp 16px 700 with 2px letter-spacing, footer 13px.

Layout:
- The card fills the canvas with a 64px margin left and right and 30px top and bottom, kraft showing around it.
- A punched hole at top center: a 10px circle filled with a darker kraft radial gradient (#C4AC84 to #A88F66) and a faint top-edge shadow arc.
- Title and subtitle in the header band, a card number ("No. 7") in red Courier Prime at the right, then the 2px red header rule across the full card width.
- Small column headers ("CATEGORY", "CARDS FILED") above the first blue rule.
- One row per blue ruled line, 41px apart. Footer on the card below the last rule: "Source: ..." left and a small filing note right.

Axes and grid:
- No axes and no gridlines; the ruled lines are the only structure. Every bar carries its typed value, so no scale is needed.

Marks:
- Bar chart: horizontal bars 22px tall, square corners, sitting exactly on their ruled line (bar bottom = rule). Category label typed on the same line at the card's left margin, value typed 10px after the bar end.
- Line chart: a 2.5px navy line with square 6px markers, drawn across the ruled area; each ruled line is a gridline, value labels typed next to the markers, series names typed at the line ends.

Labels and annotation:
- One rubber stamp on the row worth flagging: a 148 x 34 rectangle with a 2.4px red border, 3px radius, the label in red caps, rotated about -6 degrees, with a noise mask so the ink looks patchy (keep it about 85% solid so it stays legible).

Avoid: gradients on bars, rounded bar ends, color-coded categories, gridlines other than the ruled lines, and any font besides Zilla Slab and Courier Prime.

When you're done, render the chart and check that every bar bottom sits exactly on a blue rule, the typed values don't collide with the stamp, and the punched hole doesn't touch the title.
