Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Hole by Hole" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a tournament scorecard. White card, condensed type, a full scorecard grid under the plot so every bar lines up with its column, and traditional scoring marks (circles under par, boxes over).

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #FFFFFF.
- Over target / above zero: #1D3557 (navy). Under target / below zero: #D62828 (red). On target: #8D99AE (gray) dots.
- Ink: #14181F (title, grid header band, total boxes, zero line). Secondary text: #6B7280. Grid rules: #D9DDE3. Turn column band: #F3F5F8.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Oswald: eyebrow 13px 500 uppercase with 2.4px letter-spacing in red; title 34px 600 stating the finding; axis labels 12px; bar value labels 14px 600 in the bar color; grid header numbers 14px 600 white; yardage 12px; par 14px 500; scores 16px 600; totals 20px 700 white.
- Inter 400 for the subtitle (14px #6B7280), legend and source (12px).

Layout:
- 48px side margins. Title block at top, the plot from y 150 to 350, the scorecard grid from y 362 to 502, legend and source at y 548.
- The grid has a 70px label column then 21 equal columns: 1 to 9, OUT, 10 to 18, IN, TOT. The plot uses the same columns so each bar sits directly over its hole; the OUT column is a light #F3F5F8 band through the plot labelled "TURN".
- Grid rows: a black #14181F header band with white hole numbers, then YARDS, PAR and SCORE rows separated by 1px #D9DDE3 rules; 1.2px ink outer border.

Axes and grid:
- Dotted (2 on, 3 off) 1px #D9DDE3 guides at +/-1 and +/-2 with signed labels; the zero line is a 1.4px ink rule labelled "PAR".

Marks:
- Bar chart: square-cornered bars 56% of the column width, 42px per unit, navy rising above zero for over par, red dropping below for under par, signed value label at the bar end. Zero values are r4 gray dots with a 1.5px white ring on the line. In the SCORE row circle under-par numbers in red (double circle for two under) and box over-par numbers in navy (double box for two over). OUT, IN and TOT totals print white in solid ink boxes.
- Line chart: a 2px ink line of the running total against par, stepping per column, with r4.5 dots colored navy above zero, red below and gray on zero, over the same scorecard grid.

Avoid: rounded corners, gradients, shadows, a separate x-axis (the scorecard grid is the axis), colors beyond red, navy and gray.

When you're done, render the chart and check that every bar is centered over its grid column, the OUT, IN and TOT boxes equal the sums of their rows, and the title numbers match.
