Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Holdout Bars" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a quarterly business review slide on a dark screen. Bold condensed headlines, a clear two-color comparison and white brackets that do the arithmetic for the audience.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #1C1F26 (dark slate). Gridlines #2C313B, baseline 1.5px #4A5160.
- Baseline group (holdout): #64748B (muted steel). Treated group: #06B6D4 (bright cyan). Eyebrow text also cyan.
- Brackets and lift labels: #FFFFFF. Legend and category text #CBD2DC, secondary text #9AA3B2.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Big Shoulders Text: title 800 37px centered, stating the finding with the computed lifts; lift labels 700 21px white; category labels 600 17px #CBD2DC with 0.6px letter-spacing.
- Barlow: eyebrow 600 12px uppercase with 2.6px letter-spacing in cyan, centered; subtitle 400 15px centered; legend 500 14px; in-bar values 600 13px (white on steel, #1C1F26 on cyan); tick labels 13px; footer 12px.

Layout:
- Everything above the plot is centered: eyebrow at y 50, title at y 94, subtitle at y 122, then a legend row of two 14px rounded squares with labels at y 156.
- Plot from about x 96 to 904, top y 206, baseline y 520; footer notes left and right below the category labels.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal gridlines every 10 units, 1px #2C313B, with percentage ticks at the left. No vertical axis line. Bars start at zero.

Marks:
- Bar chart: grouped pairs per category, 44px bars 6px apart, 3px rounded tops, holdout steel on the left and treated cyan on the right, values printed 14px above the baseline inside each bar. Over each pair a 1.4px white bracket: a vertical from 6px above the holdout bar top up to 16px above the treated bar top, across, and down to 6px above the treated top. The lift (treated / holdout − 1, one decimal, with a plus sign) sits centered 9px above the bracket.
- Line chart: two 3px lines (steel and cyan) with 6px dots, the gap between them per period marked by a white vertical 1.4px bracket with small horizontal caps and the lift label beside it; the cyan line's last point gets a larger 9px dot.

Avoid: truncated y axes, gradients, shadows, 3D, more than two series colors, and lift labels computed as point differences when the subtitle says percent lift.

When you're done, render the chart and check that each bracket label equals treated / holdout − 1 for that pair, the title's first and last lifts match, and no lift label touches the legend or the title block.
