Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Hive Scale" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a beekeeper's season log printed on beeswax-colored paper. Warm, calm and practical, with one honey-colored line, soft gold bands marking the periods that matter, and short handwritten-feeling notes set in a friendly humanist sans.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #FBF1D6 (pale beeswax) for the whole canvas.
- Primary data mark: #C9851A (honey amber). Also the eyebrow text, the small hexagon logo and the end-value label.
- Highlighted periods (here, nectar flows): #F2D680 (nectar gold) at 45% opacity, each capped by a 2px #C9851A rule along its top edge. Their small uppercase labels in #A06812.
- Title, annotation text and the peak marker outline: #4A3413 (comb ink). Secondary text: #8A7250.
- Gridlines and footer rule: #E6D5AE (warm tan), 1px; the zero or bottom gridline 1.4px.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Cabin throughout. Eyebrow 13px 600 uppercase with 2.2px letter-spacing in #C9851A, preceded by a solid 9px-radius amber hexagon. Title 26px 700 in #4A3413, stating the finding with the actual numbers. Subtitle 15px 400 in #8A7250 giving measure, unit, period and what the shading means.
- Axis labels 13px (#8A7250), month labels 13px 600. Period labels 11px 600 uppercase, 1.6px letter-spacing. Annotations 14px 700 in #4A3413 with a 13px 400 #8A7250 second line. Footer 12px, with an italic 12px method note on the right.

Layout:
- 56px side margins. Eyebrow at y 55, title at y 100, subtitle at y 128. Plot area from about x 88 to 900 and y 170 to 500. A 1px #E6D5AE footer rule at y 546 with "Source: ..." on the left and the method note on the right.
- Highlight bands run the full plot height and extend 8px above it, where the amber cap rule and the centered band label sit.

Axes and grid:
- No axis lines. Horizontal gridlines only, at round values (every 10 units). Y labels right-aligned 12px left of the plot; the top label carries the unit ("80 kg").
- X axis: a 6px tick at each month start with the month name 4px to its right, 22px below the plot.

Marks:
- Line chart: one 2.6px #C9851A line with straight segments, round joins and caps, over a very light area wash of #C9851A at 8% opacity down to the plot bottom. Mark the maximum with a hexagon: a 9px-radius hexagon (pointy top) filled #FBF1D6 with a 2px #4A3413 outline and a 4px solid #4A3413 hexagon inside, labeled 18px above with "Peak 71.6 kg" in 700 and the date in #8A7250. End the line with a 4px amber dot and its value in 14px 700 amber above it. Annotate an abrupt drop with a short horizontal 1.2px #4A3413 leader from a 2.2px dot at the middle of the drop, then a two-line note to its right.
- Bar chart: same palette; bars in #C9851A, square-cornered, about 55% of the band, the maximum bar marked by the same hexagon sitting on its top and the highlighted periods shown as #F2D680 bands behind the bars. Value labels only on the peak and the latest bar.

Avoid: cool colors, a legend box, heavy axis lines, drop shadows, more than one line color, smoothing that hides sudden changes.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the shaded bands align exactly with their dates, the hexagon sits on the true maximum, the numbers in the title match the data, and the peak label does not touch the line.
