Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Histogram Grid" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: an operations analytics dashboard in dark mode. Six compact, strictly comparable distributions with one bright teal, a coral median pin and a pale outline of the whole for reference.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #16181D (charcoal). Panel plot areas: #1C1F26. Gridlines: 1px #272B33. Panel baselines: 1px #4A505B.
- Bars: #3CC5B4 (teal). Median line and its label pill: #FF7A66 (coral), pill text #16181D.
- Overall distribution outline: #C9CED6 at 75% opacity.
- Text: #EEF0F3 primary, #8C939F secondary.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- DM Sans: title 700 24px #EEF0F3 with -0.3px letter-spacing, stating the finding; subtitle 400 15px #8C939F with measure, unit and period; legend 400 13px; panel titles 700 15px; shared axis caption 500 13px #EEF0F3 centered; source 11.5px.
- JetBrains Mono: bin labels 400 10.5px #8C939F, y labels 10.5px ("20%"), sample size 400 11px right-aligned in each panel's top-right corner ("n = 412"), median pill text 600 10.5px ("34 min").

Layout:
- Title baseline y 50, subtitle y 76, legend at y 104: a 12px teal square "Location", a small step-outline glyph "All six locations", a 2px coral tick "Median".
- A 2 x 3 grid from x 78 to x 920 with 30px column gaps; rows start at y 124 and y 334. Each panel: title row (name left, n right), then a 136px plot area starting 34px below the row top, then bin labels 15px below the baseline.
- One shared axis caption centered at y 552 and the source at y 584.

Axes and grid:
- All panels share the same bins (for example 5-minute bins) and the same y scale in percent of that panel's total. Y labels only on the left column; bin labels (every fourth edge) under every panel.
- Three faint horizontal gridlines per panel.

Marks:
- Bar chart (histogram): bars touch with no gaps (add a 0.6px stroke in the same teal to hide antialias seams), square corners, solid #3CC5B4. The overall (pooled) distribution is drawn over the bars as a 1.4px #C9CED6 step outline at 75% opacity. The median is a 2px coral vertical line from 4px below the plot top to the baseline, topped by a 42 x 16px coral pill (3px radius) that straddles the plot top and prints the median value.
- Line chart: the same grid with each distribution drawn as a 2px teal frequency polygon through bin midpoints with a 12% teal area fill, the pooled outline as a 1.4px pale gray line, and the same coral median pin.

Avoid: gaps between bars, per-panel scales, rounded bars, gradients, glow, a y axis on every panel, more than one accent color for data.

When you're done, render the chart and check that bins and y scale are identical in every panel, no bar is clipped at the top, the median pins sit at the true medians, sample sizes are shown, and the title's fastest and slowest claims match the medians.
