Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Harvest Moon" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a late autumn night over the fields. Deep midnight blue, a low warm moon rising at the horizon, and one pale gold line doing all the talking.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: a vertical gradient from #0E1729 (midnight, solid down to 72% of the height) to #1A2740 at the bottom edge.
- Main series: #E9C979 (pale gold). Comparison series: #A9B3C9, thin and dashed.
- Text: #E8DFC8 (cream) for the title and notes; #8C93A6 for the subtitle, axis labels and source. Gridlines #26324A.
- Moon glow: #F0B45A as a radial gradient (34% opacity at the center, 12% at 45%, 0 at the edge).

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Fraunces 500 for the title (34px, cream, stating the finding) and for italic notes (15 to 18px), including the finish date callout in gold.
- Karla for everything else: eyebrow 12px 600 uppercase with 2.6px letter-spacing in gold, subtitle 16px, axis labels 12px, series labels 13 to 14px (the main series 700 in gold).

Layout:
- 56px side margins; eyebrow, title and subtitle at the top left. A few faint stars (r 0.7 to 1.3, cream at 55%) scattered in the upper right only.
- The plot ends about 200px before the right edge, leaving room for the moon: a disc of radius 44 centered just above the horizon line at the right, clipped at the horizon so it looks half risen, filled with a radial gradient from #F6DDA0 to #E3A95A at 92% opacity, a few faint darker crater spots, and a 170px glow behind it, also clipped at the horizon.
- The horizon is the x-axis: a 1px cream line at 45% opacity running from the left of the plot to the right margin.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal gridlines only, 1px #26324A, at quarters of the range; no y-axis line. Y labels right-aligned 12px left of the plot, the top one carrying the unit ("100%").
- X labels every other period, 24px below the horizon.

Marks:
- Line chart: the main series as a 2.8px gold smooth monotone curve with round caps over a gold area fill (vertical gradient from 32% to 2% opacity). Each period is marked by a small crescent: a gold disc of radius 5 with a background-colored disc of radius 4.1 offset up and to the right. The final point is a full gold disc (r 7) with a 2px background ring. The comparison series is a 1.4px dashed line (5 on 5) with no markers.
- Bar chart: slim gold bars (60% of the band) with a gold-to-transparent vertical gradient, a crescent marker centered on each bar top, and the comparison values as short 1.4px dashed #A9B3C9 ticks across each bar.
- Callouts: a 0.8px gold leader rising from the final point to a two-line label ("Last field in" in 12px #8C93A6, the date in 18px italic gold Fraunces). A thin cream bracket between the two series at one notable period, with its note in italic Fraunces 16px cream and a 12px #8C93A6 second line.

Avoid: neon glows on the data, bright saturated colors, heavy gridlines, a legend box, and letting the moon overlap the data.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the moon sits clear of the plot and its labels, the crescents read as crescents at thumbnail size, the finish date label fits inside the canvas, and the lead quoted in the note matches the data.
