Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Harvest Brix" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a winemaker's harvest log read at night. Deep aubergine ground, grape-toned lines climbing into a soft golden target band, an old-style serif for headings and a crisp modern sans for the working labels.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Ground: #1F1320 (aubergine).
- Series, in order: #D9C16B (pale gold), #D98BA0 (rose), #A4549A (plum). Label every series directly in its own color.
- Target band: #D9C16B at 10% opacity, edged by 0.8px #D9C16B dashed lines (3 on, 4 off) at 60% opacity.
- Title and pick dates: #F2E6E4 (cream). Secondary text and axis: #A8929F. Gridlines: #3A2A3B. Eyebrow: the rose #D98BA0.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Sorts Mill Goudy: title 400 at 38px in cream, stating the finding; pick dates italic at 18px; footnote italic 15px.
- Instrument Sans: eyebrow 600 at 12px with 3px letter-spacing, uppercase; subtitle 400 at 16px with measure and unit; axis labels 13px; band label and series names 600 at 11px uppercase with 1.4 to 1.8px letter-spacing; source 12px.

Layout:
- 64px left margin. Eyebrow at y 60, title at y 106, subtitle at y 136. Plot from x 84 to 896, y 200 to 490. Pick labels sit in the space above the plot. Source at bottom left, a one-line italic footnote explaining the ticks at bottom right.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal 1px #3A2A3B gridlines at round values (not drawn where a band edge already is), numbers right-aligned 12px left of the plot. A 1px #A8929F baseline with 6px ticks at date labels. No y-axis line.
- The target band spans the full plot width with its label in small caps just above its top edge at the left.

Marks:
- Line chart: 2.6px round-capped lines, monotone-smoothed, with small hollow markers (r 2.6, ground fill, 1.4px series-color stroke) at each reading. Each line ends in a solid r 4.5 dot with a 1.5px ground ring, and a 1.4px vertical tick in the series color rises from 10px below that dot to just above the plot, topped by the date (Sorts Mill Goudy italic, cream) and the series name (Instrument Sans caps, series color), both centered on the tick.
- Bar chart: vertical bars 60% of the band in the series colors with 2px rounded tops, the target range drawn as the same translucent gold band behind them, and a thin vertical tick plus italic date label above each bar that reached the target.

Avoid: a legend box (the tick labels are the legend), bright white, neon glow, heavy gridlines and more than three series colors.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the pick labels don't collide with each other, every line visibly enters the target band before its tick, plum is readable against the aubergine, and the title's time gap matches the tick dates.
