Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Habitat Area" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a land trust's impact dashboard on a dark slate-green ground. Big, confident bars where each category wears its own landscape color, and this year's progress glows as a brighter cap.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #15201C (dark slate green).
- Category colors (base / brighter tint for the latest addition): wetland #4AB3C8 / #9BE6F2; forest #4E9A5A / #97DDA2; grassland #D6B24C / #F8DE8C (grassland gold is also the eyebrow color); scrub #8E8F4E / #CDCF88.
- Ink #EEF3EE; secondary text #93A69C; vertical gridlines #2A3A33; the zero axis in #93A69C.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Bricolage Grotesque throughout: eyebrow 12px 600 uppercase with 2.2px letter-spacing; title 33px 700 with -0.6px letter-spacing, stating the finding; subtitle 16px 400 #93A69C; category names 19px 700 in their own base color with the total 14px 400 ink below; gain labels 14px 600 in the bright tint; right-column growth 20px 800 ink (24px in the bright tint for the leader) with "on 2024" 11.5px muted below; axis labels 13px; source 12px.

Layout:
- 56px side margins. Eyebrow y 54, title y 94, subtitle y 122.
- A legend row at y 152: a 26 x 12 base swatch "Protected before 2025" and a 12 x 12 bright swatch "Newly protected in 2025 (brighter tint)". On the same row, right-aligned at x 904, a summary: "+4,670 ha" in 20px 800 ink followed by "added in 2025, 50,420 ha in all" in 14px muted.
- Category labels in a left column from x 56; bars from x 206 to 760; a right column right-aligned at x 904 headed "ADDED 2025" (11px 600, 1.5px letter-spacing). Rows every 76px, bars 44px tall. Source line at y 568.

Axes and grid:
- Vertical gridlines at round values (0, 5k, 10k...) in 1px #2A3A33 from just above the first bar to below the last, labels under them, a "hectares" unit label right-aligned at the plot end. A 1.2px muted zero line. No horizontal gridlines.

Marks:
- Bar chart: horizontal bars, square-cornered, the base amount in the category color and the latest addition as a brighter-tint segment at the end, separated by a 1.5px background-colored seam. The gain value ("+2,150") sits 10px after the bar in the bright tint. Order bars largest first.
- Line chart: one 3px line per category in its base color, with the latest period's segment drawn in the bright tint and a bright end dot (r 5); category names as direct labels at the left in the bold colored style, growth figures in the right column.

Avoid: gradients, glows, rounded bars, a generic categorical palette, white bars, dual axes.

When you're done, render the chart and check that totals equal base plus addition, the growth percentages are addition divided by the prior amount, the leader named in the title really has the largest addition, and the summary on the legend row does not collide with the legend.
