Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Gunmetal Window" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a brushed graphite desktop window from the mid-2000s. Machined, quiet, embossed text, a stitched toolbar and a slide-out drawer of summary stats.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Desk: #141619. Window body: #2E3136 in a vertical gradient from #383C42 to #26292D, 12px radius, 1px #50555C edge, shadow 0 10px 24px black at 60%.
- Brushed grain: about 260 long horizontal 1px lines at random heights, alternating white and black at 2.5 to 6% opacity, clipped to the window.
- Toolbar sheen: diagonal gradient #4B5058, #3A3E45 at 45%, #43484F at 55%, #303338. Stitching: 5/3 dashed #1C1E21 lines with a #6A7078 35% copy 1px below.
- Plot well: #15171A with a top inner shadow (black 45% fading out over 6%) and a #4E535A bottom highlight.
- Series 1: amber #F2A33A. Series 2: steel blue #9DB8D9. More series: #7FD1B9, then #D98FA0.
- Text: title #ECEEF1, secondary #9AA1AA, axis #7D858F, labels #C9CED5. Gridlines #262A2F.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Michroma for the window title (12px, 2.5px letter-spacing, caps) and small section heads (10px, 2px).
- Inter for the rest: chart title 23px 600 stating the finding, subtitle 13px, tab labels 12px, axis labels 11 to 12px, drawer values 24px 600.
- Emboss every piece of text on metal: a near-black copy 1px above at 80% and a white copy 1px below at 10% under the face.

Layout:
- Title bar with three recessed round buttons (7px radius, radial #0E0F11 to #2A2D31, a faint white lower lip) at the top left and the embossed title centered.
- Toolbar under it with stitched lines above and below and a centered segmented control (28px tall, 7px radius, #33373D), the active segment recessed dark with amber text.
- Title and subtitle, then the inset plot well (9px radius) filling the window width.
- A drawer slid out behind the window on the right, a little shorter than it, with a "SUMMARY" head and stacked stat tiles (#1B1D21, 7px radius) each showing a color tick, series name, big value and a one-line change.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal #262A2F gridlines, y labels with degree marks, a #3A3E44 baseline, short month ticks with labels centered in each month.

Marks:
- Line chart: step lines (hold value, then jump) with softly rounded 7px corners at every step, 3px for the primary and 2.5px for the secondary, a 2.5px blur glow. End points as 4.5px rings filled with the well color. Direct labels near the lines in the series colors.
- Bar chart: columns with 4px top radius in a vertical gradient from the series color to 70% of it, a 1px lighter top edge, on the same inset well; the drawer carries the same summary tiles.

Avoid: flat black, bright white panels, heavy gradients on data, thin fonts on metal, and em dashes.

When you're done, render the chart and check that step corners are rounded but steps still read as instant jumps, the embossing is subtle, and the drawer does not cover the plot.
