Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Guilloche Note" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: the face of a banknote. Pale sea-green security paper covered in fine wavy lines, dense engraved guilloche rosettes in the four corners, a single deep green engraved line and a red serial number. Official, precise and quietly ornate.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Paper: #E3EEE6, with a soft radial lift to #EDF4EE at the center.
- Engraving green (title, data line, frame, rosettes, hatch, microtext): #1F4D3A.
- Sage (eyebrow, gridlines, secondary ornament): #5E8C75.
- Wave tint for the background security lines: #B7D1C1 at 75% opacity.
- Serial number red: #B3261E. Used only for the serial numbers.
- Body ink for axis labels, subtitle and source: #2B3A33.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Libre Caslon Display 400 for the title: 36px, #1F4D3A, centered, sentence case, stating the finding.
- Libre Caslon Text for everything else: eyebrow 12px 700 uppercase with 4.5px letter-spacing in sage, centered above the title ("THE BANK OF ..."); subtitle 15px italic in #2B3A33; axis labels 13px 400; direct value labels 14 to 16px 700 in green; serial numbers 15px 700 with 1.5px letter-spacing in red; source 12px italic; footer line 9px 700 uppercase with 2.5px letter-spacing in sage.

Layout:
- A banknote frame: a 1.4px green rectangle inset 14px, a 0.5px rectangle inset 22px, and between them three interlaced sine lines (0.45px, sage, amplitude about 2.3px, wavelength about 31px, phases 120 degrees apart) running around all four sides.
- A guilloche rosette centered 74px in from each corner, radius 56, sitting on a paper-colored disc: three bands of phase-shifted rings (radius 44 with 18 lobes of amplitude 8 in 8 copies; radius 30, 12 lobes, amplitude 6, 7 copies; radius 17, 8 lobes, amplitude 5, 5 copies), 0.45px green, a 0.9px outer circle at r 54 and a small paper-filled hub (r 7, 0.8px stroke).
- Heading centered between the top rosettes: eyebrow at y 52, title baseline at y 92, subtitle at y 120. The two serial numbers sit on the eyebrow baseline, one left-aligned at x 162 and one right-aligned at x 798.
- Plot area from x 112 to 852, y 170 to 446. Source and a small uppercase issuing line centered between the bottom rosettes.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal gridlines only: 0.6px sage dotted (1 on, 3 off). Y labels right-aligned 12px left of the plot, no y-axis line.
- The baseline is a microtext rule: two 0.5px green hairlines 7px apart, with a repeating uppercase phrase ("BANK OF ALDMARK · ONE HUNDRED CROWNS ·") in Libre Caslon Text 700 at 5px running between them, justified to the full width. Short 0.8px tick marks drop 5.5px below it at each labeled year; year labels 26px below the baseline.

Marks:
- Line chart: a 2.6px #1F4D3A line with straight segments and round joins, knocked out of the background with a 6px paper-colored stroke underneath. The area beneath is an engraved hatch: parallel lines rotated -38 degrees, 1.3px wide every 3.2px, clipped to the area and faded by a vertical mask from full strength at the top of the plot to 30% at the baseline. First point: a hollow circle r 4 (paper fill, 1.6px green); last point: a solid green dot r 5.5 with a 2px paper ring. Label both ends directly with the value and unit.
- Bar chart: square-cornered bars filled with the same -38 degree green engraved hatch inside a 1.2px #1F4D3A outline, 55% of the band width, no fill color beyond the hatch. The latest bar is solid #1F4D3A. Value labels 8px above each bar in Libre Caslon Text 700. The baseline is the same microtext rule.

Texture:
- Behind everything, 92 horizontal wavy security lines 6.2px apart, 0.5px #B7D1C1, each a sine of wavelength about 145px whose amplitude swells from 1.2px at the edges to 3.6px at the center, with each line phase-shifted from the one above so the field shimmers.

Avoid: gradients on marks, drop shadows, bright or saturated colors besides the serial red, sans-serif type, rounded corners, a legend for a single series, and letting the wave field compete with the data (keep it pale).

When you're done, render the chart and check that the rosettes do not touch any axis label, the microtext reads as a fine rule at thumbnail size, the hatch is visible but lighter than the line, and the title's arithmetic matches the data.
