Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Growth Percentiles" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a friendly veterinary clinic growth chart printed for an owner. Clean white paper, soft rounded type, calm teal reference bands and one confident navy patient line. Reassuring, clinical, never alarming.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #FFFFFF.
- Patient or primary series: #1D3557 (dark navy) for the line, markers, latest-point callout and title.
- Reference median: #2A9D8F (teal), dashed. Eyebrow text #1F7A70.
- Reference bands, from outer to inner: #E3F3F0 (5th to 95th), #C9E8E3 (10th to 90th), #A9DAD2 (25th to 75th).
- Secondary text #6B7A89, source text #98A4AF, gridlines #E8EDF1, baseline #C7D0D8, callout subtext #BFD3E6.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Varela Round (400 only) for everything. Title 27px navy stating the finding; subtitle 15px #6B7A89 with measure, unit and period; axis ticks 13px; percentile labels 12px (the 50th in #1F7A70); legend 13px; source 12px.
- Eyebrow: a 26px tall pill (radius 13, fill #E3F3F0) with a 5px teal dot and 13px #1F7A70 text such as "Patient growth chart".

Layout:
- 48px side margins. Eyebrow pill at the top, title about 40px below, subtitle under it, then a one-line legend at y about 162, then the plot from about y 206 to 520.
- Plot runs from x 88 to 820; the right 90px holds the stacked percentile labels ("95th" down to "5th") aligned to where each band ends, with a small "Percentile" header above. Nudge the labels apart so baselines are at least 15px apart.
- x-axis title ("Age (weeks)") centered below the tick labels; source bottom right.

Axes and grid:
- 1px #E8EDF1 horizontal and vertical gridlines at round values; no axis lines except a 1.2px #C7D0D8 baseline. Tick labels 12px outside the plot; a small unit label ("kg") above the y ticks.

Marks:
- Line chart: draw the reference distribution as three nested smooth filled bands (outer lightest), with the median as a 1.6px teal dashed line (5 on, 4 off). The subject series is a 3px navy line with straight segments and round joins; every observation gets a white dot (r 4.5) with a 2.5px navy ring, and the latest observation a solid navy dot (r 6.5). If there are several series, give the others the same treatment in muted slate and keep navy for the focus series.
- Bar chart: vertical bars in navy (#1D3557) with 6px rounded top corners, about 55% of the band, on the same white grid; show any reference range as a #C9E8E3 band behind the bars with the median as a teal dashed rule; highlight the latest bar with a navy callout.
- Latest-point callout: a navy rounded rectangle (radius 12, about 176 x 52) above and left of the last point, with a small pointer triangle to the dot; first line 15px white ("Week 52: 30.7 kg"), second line 12.5px #BFD3E6 stating where it sits ("Between 75th and 90th").

Legend:
- One row: the patient line sample (a 24px navy line with a ringed dot), a dashed teal median sample, then three 18 x 14 rounded swatches for the bands with their ranges.

Avoid: harsh reds or warning colors, heavy borders, drop shadows, gradients, angular or condensed fonts, and more than one strong color.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the bands nest correctly (outer lightest), the percentile labels on the right do not overlap, the callout does not cover the line, and the callout's percentile claim matches the data.
