Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Green Ledger" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a roastery's green coffee stock ledger kept in a clothbound book. Dark forest green paper, parchment ink, ruled columns with a double header rule, and a bookkeeper's italic notes where action is needed.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #132019 (dark forest green).
- Ink and ordinary bars: #EFE3C8 (parchment).
- Target marker: #A7C957 (pistachio). Below-target bars, their tags and notes: #C0643B (warm rust).
- Secondary text: #93A08F. Ruling and gridlines: #2C3D33.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Alegreya 700 34px #EFE3C8 for the title (sentence case, stating the finding); Alegreya italic 17px #93A08F for the subtitle; Alegreya 16px for item names; Alegreya italic 15px for the rust action notes; Alegreya italic 14px for the footer.
- Alegreya Sans SC for labels and figures: running header 500 14px with 2px letter-spacing in #93A08F; column heads 700 14px with 1px letter-spacing; lot numbers 15px #93A08F; code tags 700 13px with 1.2px letter-spacing; values 700 15px; axis numbers 13px #93A08F; the target label 700 14px in #A7C957.

Layout:
- 48px side margins. Running header at y 50, title at y 96, subtitle at y 124.
- Column heads at y 166 (Lot, Origin, the measure, and a right-aligned count column), underlined with a double rule: two 1px #EFE3C8 lines 4px apart.
- Rows 40px apart from y 206, each underlined by a 1px #2C3D33 rule, with 1px #2C3D33 vertical rules between columns.
- Each row: lot number, an outlined code tag (44 x 20px, 3px radius, 1.2px stroke, parchment or rust), the item name, the bar, and the count right aligned at x 912.
- A 1px #EFE3C8 rule at y 556 and footer text at y 578.

Axes and grid:
- Vertical 1px #2C3D33 gridlines at each whole unit through the rows, axis numbers 20px below the last row, with the unit ("mo") after the last one. No axis lines.
- The target is a 2.4px #A7C957 vertical line through all rows, topped by a small downward triangle, labeled in the column head row.

Marks:
- Bar chart: flat, square-cornered horizontal bars 20px tall, starting at x 388 on a 0 to 6 scale, sorted largest first. Parchment for items at or above target with a 700 value label 8px after the bar; rust for items below target with an italic rust note ("2.4 reorder this month", "1.1 reorder now") that knocks out the target line behind it (a 6px #132019 stroke painted under the text).
- Line chart: a 2.2px parchment line with square 6px markers, points below the target turned rust with their italic notes, the target as a horizontal 2.4px pistachio line, and the same ruled header and footer.

Avoid: gradients, rounded bars, glows, bright white, modern sans-serif type, and any color on in-target items.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the rust notes stay readable where they cross the target line, the count of below-target items in the title matches the data, and every column lines up under its double-ruled head.
