Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Graphite" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a calm, precise dark dashboard in pure greys. The leading series is white; the rest recede into graphite. Level changes read as clean, square steps.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #1A1A1A (soft charcoal).
- Series, in order of importance: #FFFFFF (leading series), #999999 (60% grey), #595959 (35% grey). No other data colors.
- Series name text: #FFFFFF, #B8B8B8 and #8C8C8C respectively (lighter than the lines so the deepest grey stays readable).
- Title: #F2F2F2. Axis labels, subtitle and notes: #8C8C8C.
- Gridlines: #FFFFFF at 8% opacity, 1px; the zero baseline at 30% opacity.

Typography (Google Fonts): Manrope 400, 500 and 600.
- Title: 500, 26px, -0.4px letter-spacing, one weight only, stating the finding.
- Subtitle: 400, 14.5px, #8C8C8C, with measure, unit and date range.
- Axis labels: 12px with tabular figures (font-variant-numeric: tabular-nums), #8C8C8C, one decimal ("3.0").
- Value column: series name 12.5px 500; current value 24px (600 for the leader, 400 for the rest) in tabular figures; a 11px note under it ("from 0.50% in 2021").

Layout:
- 56px side margins. Plot from about x = 96 to 716 and y = 150 to 500.
- A thin right-edge value column starting at x = 760, separated from the plot by a 1px #FFFFFF 12% opacity vertical rule, headed "RATE NOW" (10.5px 600 uppercase, 2px letter-spacing). One block per series on an 84px pitch: a 14 x 2 px swatch of the series color, the name, the current value and the note.
- Source line at the bottom left in 12px #8C8C8C.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal gridlines at every whole unit; the unit ("%") as a small label above the y labels. Year ticks 6px long at 30% white, with year labels 6px right of each tick.
- No vertical gridlines and no y-axis line.

Marks:
- Line chart: step lines (horizontal then vertical, never diagonal) with 2px strokes, miter joins and square caps. Draw the receding series first and the white one last. At every level change put a 6 x 6 px square marker in the series color with a 1px #1A1A1A outline. Lines run to the right edge of the plot at their current level.
- Bar chart: square-cornered vertical bars in #595959, with the leading bar or series in #FFFFFF and a secondary one in #999999; gaps of 40% of the band. Value labels 12px tabular above each bar in the matching text grey. The value column on the right still lists the latest values.

Avoid: any hue, smoothing or diagonal segments, rounded corners, glows, gradients, legends inside the plot, and bold titles.

When you're done, render the chart and check that every segment is strictly horizontal or vertical, squares sit exactly on the step corners, the white series is on top, and the value column matches each series' last value.
