Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Grand Hotel" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a grand hotel's stationery seen at night on a dark green marble desk. Polished brass hairlines and corner brackets, a centered serif title in brass, ivory lettering, and pale marble veins drifting behind everything. Rich but restrained.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Marble: a radial gradient from #1A3A30 (center at 30% across, 25% down, radius 90%) to #10261F.
- Veins: #D7E6DC at 10 to 22% opacity.
- Brass: #C2A165 for the title, frame, ornaments, primary series and its axis.
- Ivory: #EDE6D3 for the secondary series, its axis and highlighted text.
- Secondary text: #9DB0A5.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Cormorant Garamond for the title (600, 38px, brass, centered, stating the finding) and end-point value labels (700, 22px, in the series color). Its old-style figures are part of the look.
- Karla for everything else: eyebrow 600 12px uppercase with 5px letter-spacing in #9DB0A5; subtitle 400 14px #9DB0A5 naming both measures, units and which axis each uses; axis labels 500 13px (left axis brass, right axis ivory at 85%); category labels 12px #9DB0A5; direct series labels 700 14px with a 12px note under them; band labels 600 10px uppercase with 2px letter-spacing; source 12px centered.

Layout:
- Frame: a 0.8px brass hairline at 70% opacity inset 28px. At each corner, an L-shaped bracket inset 16px with 34px arms (1.6px) and a nested inner L (0.7px) 6px further in.
- Centered header: eyebrow at y 70, title at y 114, then a rule ornament at y 134: two 78px brass hairlines (0.8px) either side of a 12px open brass diamond with a 1.8px brass dot inside, plus a 1.6px dot at each outer end. Subtitle centered at y 160.
- Plot from x 112 to 830, y 208 to 488. Source centered at y 562.

Texture:
- Marble veins: 9 long wandering strands, each built from about 90 short 13px steps whose heading drifts randomly by up to plus or minus 0.11 radians per step, 0.5 to 1.6px thick, softened with a 0.6px Gaussian blur. They cross the whole page, including under the chart, and stay faint.

Axes and grid:
- Five aligned horizontal gridlines, 0.6px brass at 20% opacity, with the bottom one as a 1px brass baseline at 70%. Left axis labels in brass for the primary measure, right axis labels in ivory for the secondary measure, both 12px from the plot.
- A highlighted period (a renovation, a season) as a full-height ivory band at 6% opacity with a two-line uppercase label at its top.

Marks:
- Line chart: primary series a 2.8px solid brass line with straight segments and solid 4.4px brass dots outlined 1.5px in the marble color; secondary series a 1.8px ivory line dashed 6 on 4 with hollow 3.8px dots (marble fill, 1.6px ivory ring). Label each series directly near its first point (name plus first value) and put the last value of each in Cormorant Garamond 22px next to its last point.
- Bar chart: slim square-cornered brass bars (about 45% of the band) for the primary measure, with the secondary measure drawn as the dashed ivory line with hollow dots on the right axis over the bars; values for the bars in Karla 12px brass above them.

Avoid: bright green, glossy or glassy effects, drop shadows, heavy frames, busy marble that competes with the data, and more than two accent colors.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the veins stay faint behind the data, both axes are clearly tied to their series by color, no label collides with a line, and the corner brackets sit symmetrically.
