Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Gold Foil" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a gala invitation on black cardstock. Hot-stamped gold foil for what matters, pewter for the rest, a blind-embossed lattice and a fine double border. Quiet, formal luxury.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Card: #0D0C0B for the whole canvas.
- Gold foil: a metallic linear gradient across the whole canvas (top-left to bottom-right, in user space so every foil mark shares one sheen) with stops #C9A54C at 0, #F1D98B at 0.28, #A9853A at 0.5, #F1D98B at 0.72 and #C9A54C at 1. Use #F1D98B as the flat color for gold italic labels.
- Pewter: #9A9A94 for secondary text, column hairlines and the series that shrank or matter less.
- Blind-embossed lattice: a 34px diamond grid (pattern rotated 45°) drawn with a 1px #1B1916 line and a 1px #050404 line 1px below it, filling the card inside the border. Barely visible.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Cinzel for the title (700, 34px, 1px letter-spacing, gold gradient, states the finding), the eyebrow (500, 12px, 4px letter-spacing, pewter), column headers (600, 18px, 2px letter-spacing, gold), values (600, 14px) and change figures (700, 14px), and the source (500, 11px, 2.5px letter-spacing, pewter).
- Cormorant Garamond italic 500 for series names (19px) and the subtitle (20px, pewter).

Layout:
- A double foil border: 1.6px gradient stroke 20px in and 0.6px 27px in, with small foil diamonds (7px half-width, card-colored 1.5px outline) on the four corners.
- A rosette centered at y 52: eight 3.2 x 8px foil ellipse petals around a 3px foil dot, flanked by two 64px 0.8px foil rules.
- Eyebrow at y 96, title at y 136, subtitle at y 166, all centered. Chart from about y 214 to 516. A legend line at y 556 on the left ("Grew" in gold, "Shrank" in pewter, each after a 28px sample line) and the source on the right.
- Every foil element gets a tiny stamp shadow: drop shadow 0 1px, blur 0.7, black at 90%.

Axes and grid:
- No axes or gridlines. For a slope chart, two 0.6px pewter column hairlines (280px apart) with the period labels in Cinzel gold above them. For other charts, only a 0.6px pewter baseline.

Marks:
- Line chart (slope chart or line): series that grew are 2.6px gold-gradient lines with 4.5px foil end dots; series that shrank are 1.4px pewter lines with 3.4px pewter dots; dots carry a 1.5px card-colored ring. Draw pewter first so gold sits on top. Label both ends: left end "Name value" right-aligned (name in italic, value in Cinzel), right end "value Name" left-aligned, and the percent change right-aligned in the far column with a true minus sign. Keep at least 24px between labels at each end.
- Bar chart: slim square-cornered bars (about 40% of the band), gold gradient for the focus or growing categories and pewter for the rest, a 0.6px pewter baseline, values in Cinzel above each bar, names in Cormorant italic below.

Avoid: flat yellow instead of the gradient, glows, heavy shadows, more than one metallic, bright white text, thick borders, and dense gridlines.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the foil gradient reads as metal (light and dark bands visible across the title), the lattice is barely perceptible, no end labels collide, and every percent change is computed correctly from the data.
