Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Glide Path" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a fund fact sheet from a calm, trustworthy retirement provider. Botanical sage paper, bookish serif headline, two gentle curves that trade places over a lifetime.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #EFF3EC (pale sage) for the whole canvas.
- First series (the declining or growth share): #24573A (deep green).
- Second series (the rising or defensive share): #6A88AB (dusty blue).
- Primary text and the milestone line and flag: #23302A. Secondary text: #66736B.
- Gridlines and footer rule: #CCD6C8. Hatch strokes between the lines: #9DAE9F.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Alegreya for the title (700, 33px, #23302A, a sentence stating the finding), end-value numerals (700, 22px, in the series color) and the italic annotation (400 italic, 15px).
- Alegreya Sans for everything else: eyebrow 13px 700 uppercase with 2.4px letter-spacing in deep green; subtitle 17px #66736B with measure, unit and x meaning; direct series labels 17px 700 in the series color; axis labels 14 to 16px (the milestone tick 700); source and notes 13px.

Layout:
- 56px side margins. Eyebrow at y 56, title at y 100, subtitle at y 130. Plot from x 104 to 812, y 196 to 486, leaving a 90px right gutter for end labels.
- Footer: a 1px #CCD6C8 rule at y 562, "Source: ..." left and a one-line key to the hatching right, both 13px.

Axes and grid:
- No axis lines except a 1.4px #CCD6C8 zero line. Four dashed gridlines (1px, dash 2 4) at 25, 50, 75 and 100%, labeled at the left in 14px #66736B.
- The x axis counts down to a milestone (for a glide path: years to retirement 40, 30, 20, 10, 0), with small 6px tick marks and 16px labels. Values past the milestone are shown as +5, +10 in 15px #66736B, with "Years to retirement" at the left end and "Years after" at the right end beneath the axis.

Marks:
- Line chart: smooth monotone curves, 4px deep green and 3.5px dusty blue, round caps, a 5px dot at each end in the series color. The area between the two lines is filled with a 45 degree hatch (1.1px #9DAE9F strokes every 7px, 80% opacity). Where the lines cross, a 6px sage-filled circle with a 2px #23302A ring and a short 1px leader to an italic Alegreya note ("50 / 50 at +3 years").
- Bar chart: paired or stacked bars in the same two colors with square corners, the gap between two paired bars hatched the same way; the milestone line and flag work identically.

Labels and annotation:
- A vertical 1.4px #23302A milestone line rising 26px above the plot, topped by a pennant flag (104 x 20px, #23302A, a notched right edge) with the label in Alegreya Sans 12px 700 uppercase, 1.4px letter-spacing, in page color ("RETIRE 2055").
- The region after the milestone gets a 5% deep green tint.
- Label each series directly at the start ("Equities 90%") and at the end with a 22px serif value over a 14px word; no legend box.

Avoid: legends, drop shadows, gradients, saturated greens, a y-axis line, and heavy hatching that competes with the lines.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the hatch stays strictly between the two lines, the flag does not collide with the top gridline label, the crossing note is clear of both lines, and end labels sit in the right gutter without clipping.
