Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Glass Cockpit" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a modern airliner's primary flight display. Pure black glass, crisp white scales, magenta for what was planned, cyan for what actually happened, green for the readout that matters. Functional and exact.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Display: #000000.
- Planned or target series: #FF3FD2 (magenta). Actual or measured series: #39D7FF (cyan).
- Readout box and its figures: #39FF6A (green).
- Title band: sky #2D7FD3 over earth #7A4A26 with a 2.5px #FFFFFF horizon line.
- Scales, ticks and primary text: #FFFFFF. Secondary text #9A9A9A. Gridlines #1E1E1E; waypoint guide lines #262626; tape border #6A6A6A, tape fill #0A0A0A.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- B612 700 27px white for the title only.
- B612 Mono for everything else: subtitle 13px uppercase white with 0.6px letter-spacing, tape and axis figures 12 to 13px white, series labels 700 13px in their series color, readout caption 11px and readout value 700 28px green, small notes 11px #9A9A9A.
- B612 Mono sits periods, commas and colons at the left of a full-width cell, so "11.2" reads as "11. 2" and "4:00" as "4: 00". Any label containing a period, comma, colon or semicolon (decimals, clock times, "Source: ...") is set in proportional B612 from the same family, same size, weight and color; labels without that punctuation stay in B612 Mono.

Layout:
- Title band from y 0 to 116: sky above a horizon at y 74, earth below. The title sits on the sky at y 52, the subtitle (measure, unit, context) on the earth at y 102. At the right, a small pitch ladder (white 1.6px lines, 36px and 68px wide, figures "10") and a black fixed-aircraft symbol with white outline straddling the horizon.
- Plot from x 150 to 900. Main panel y 176 to 404; below it a short deviation strip (y 436 to 498); time axis under both.
- A vertical tape scale at the left (x 44 to 112): black fill, 1px border, white ticks on its right edge (8px minor every 5 units, 14px major every 20 with figures).

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal gridlines 1px #1E1E1E; baseline 1px #9A9A9A. X ticks 8px white with figures below, axis caption right-aligned in 11px #9A9A9A.
- Along the top of the plot, event markers as small white downward triangles (10px) with names in 11px mono above and a 1px #262626 guide line down through the plot.
- A thin 1px white limit line (for a reserve, threshold or target) labeled in 11px mono just above its left end.

Marks:
- Line chart: smooth monotone curves, 2.6px, with a subtle glow (Gaussian blur 2.2 merged under the stroke). Planned series magenta dashed 10 on 6; actual series cyan solid, ending in a 4px cyan dot. Label each series directly in 700 13px of its color, offset away from the lines. When the two lines nearly coincide, add a deviation strip: actual minus plan as a 2px cyan line over a cyan 14% area, against a magenta dashed zero line, with "DEV" as its label.
- Bar chart: vertical bars as outlined instrument columns: 2px cyan outline, fill cyan at 18% opacity, square corners, 50% of the band; planned or target values as magenta 2.5px horizontal ticks across each bar. Value labels 12px mono above in white.
- Readout box: a black box with a 1.6px green border (about 178 x 92px) in the emptiest corner of the plot, with a caption, the key figure in 28px green, and a comparison line in 12px (difference in green).
- A green pointer box on the tape (arrow-shaped, 1.6px green stroke) showing the latest actual value in 700 15px green.

Avoid: gradients other than the title band's flat halves, rounded corners, drop shadows, gray backgrounds, any colors beyond these, and cluttered labels.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the magenta and cyan lines are both visible where they overlap, the readout numbers match the data, nothing overlaps the tape pointer, and the title band stays readable at thumbnail size.
