Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Gilded Bar" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: the menu board of an art deco speakeasy. Teal-black lacquer, brass lettering and hairline brass frames, fan ornaments in the corners, and cream numbers that read like prices.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Ground: #0C1C1E (deep teal black).
- Brass for the title, category labels, outlines, frame and fans: #C8A45C.
- Bar fill: #6B5528 (dark brass).
- Values and the italic note: #F3E9D2 (light cream). Source text: #8F8A74. Dotted vertical guides: #2A3B3B.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Limelight 40px in brass for the title, centered, title case.
- Tenor Sans for everything else: the venue name 13px with 5px letter-spacing, uppercase, flanked by 46px 0.8px brass rules; subtitle 15px cream at 80% opacity; category labels 14px uppercase with 2px letter-spacing in brass, right-aligned 18px left of the bars; values 17px cream; source 10px uppercase with 2.4px letter-spacing.
- Libre Caslon Text italic 15px in cream at 85% opacity for the short note naming the period (for example the week).

Layout:
- A frame of two brass rectangles: 1.2px inset 36px from the canvas edge and 0.6px (70% opacity) inset a further 6px. In each inner corner an art deco fan: seven 0.8px brass spokes over a quarter circle of 46px radius, arcs at radius 18 and 32 (0.8px) and 46 (1.4px), and a solid brass quarter disc of radius 10 at the corner.
- Everything centered: venue name at y 80, title at y 128, subtitle at y 158, bars from y 196, the italic note at y 520 and the source at y 546.

Axes and grid:
- No x-axis labels: values sit at the bar ends. Faint 1px #2A3B3B dotted guides (1 on, 3 off) at round values and a 1.2px brass baseline on the left edge of the bars.

Marks:
- Bar chart: horizontal bars 18px tall on a 30px row pitch, sorted largest first, filled #6B5528 with a 1px brass outline and a second 0.6px brass outline inset 3px (a double outline). Values 10px past the bar end in cream.
- Line chart: a 1.6px brass line with a parallel 0.6px brass line 3px below it (a double stroke), the area under it filled #6B5528 at 60% opacity, small brass diamond markers (5px) with cream value labels above the key points, and category labels in spaced Tenor Sans caps along the bottom.

Avoid: gradients, glows, rounded corners, bright gold, white, sans-serif titles other than Limelight, and clutter inside the frame beyond the fans.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the double outline is visible on the shortest bar, the fans sit cleanly in all four corners without touching text, the values clear the frame, and totals quoted in the subtitle add up.
