Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Gift Size Bands" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a campaign report printed for an arts patrons' evening. Dark, rich and formal: deep aubergine, a gold program eyebrow, a high-contrast display serif and a mirrored layout that reads like a pyramid.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #1F1224 (deep aubergine).
- First measure: #D4A94B (gold). Second measure: #D8B4FE (pale lilac). Headers and value labels use their measure's color.
- Category chips: #2A1930. Row dividers: #3A2742.
- Text #F4ECF6; secondary text #A893AE.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Playfair Display: title 700 32px #F4ECF6, centered, stating the finding; italic 400 16px for a short annotation.
- Lato for everything else: eyebrow 700 10px uppercase with 2.4px letter-spacing in gold flanked by two 32px gold hairlines; subtitle 15px #A893AE centered; column heads 900 12px uppercase with 2.2px letter-spacing in the measure colors (center head 700 10px #A893AE); category chip labels 700 13px; value labels 700 14px in the measure color; footer 11px.

Layout:
- Centered header: eyebrow at y 48, title at 92, subtitle at 122.
- Three columns: a 164px central column of rounded category chips (148 x 30, radius 15) centered at x 480; the first measure's bars grow LEFT from 6px outside the chip column; the second measure's bars grow RIGHT from 6px outside it. Each side has its own scale; leave about 70px for labels at the outer end.
- Rows 46px tall, with 1px #3A2742 dividers between rows spanning x 72 to 888. Largest category at the top so the shape reads as a pyramid.
- Footer: a 0.8px gold rule, "Source: ..." left in #A893AE and a letter-spaced gold total right.

Axes and grid:
- No axes, ticks or gridlines. Every bar carries its value.

Marks:
- Bar chart: square-cornered bars 26px tall. Left bars #D4A94B with the value 8px beyond the bar's outer end; right bars #D8B4FE with the value 8px beyond. A tiny minimum width (2px) so zero-ish bars still show.
- Line chart: two 2.5px lines, #D4A94B and #D8B4FE, each on its own panel mirrored left and right of a central column of category labels (the same chips), with 4px dots and value labels, so the mirrored reading survives.

Labels and annotation:
- One italic Playfair annotation in the empty space on the narrow end of the pyramid, with a small Lato supporting line.

Avoid: a shared scale that crushes one side, gradients, glows, rounded bar ends, a legend box (the column heads are the legend) and extra accent colors.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the chips stay centered, every value label clears its bar and the canvas edge, and the title's share is arithmetically right.
