Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Germination Trial" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a seed lab's quality control sheet on a dark soil-brown screen. Plain, highly legible and pass/fail at a glance.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #1E1A16 (dark soil brown).
- Passing marks: #7CC36B (seedling green).
- Failing marks: #D98A4E (muted orange) with a 45 degree hatch of 3px #B86A33 stripes every 8px, so pass and fail differ by texture as well as color. Failing value labels are orange too.
- Standard line and its label: #E8E0D2. Ink: #F1ECE4. Secondary text: #A89D90. Gridlines: #352E27. Baseline: #6B5F52.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Atkinson Hyperlegible throughout. Eyebrow 12px 700 uppercase, 2px letter-spacing, green. Title 32px 700 #F1ECE4 stating how many items failed. Subtitle 16px #A89D90 with measure, unit and what is printed inside the bars. Legend 14px. Axis labels 13px. Value labels 15px 700. Numbers inside bars 17px 700 with a 10.5px unit word under them, both in the page color. Category codes in two lines: 11px prefix in #A89D90, 13px 700 number in ink. Standard label 11px 700 uppercase with 1px letter-spacing plus the value at 15px 700.

Layout:
- 56px left margin. Eyebrow at y 52, title at y 92, subtitle at y 120, legend at y 150.
- Plot from x 96 to 838, baseline at y 474, 0 to 100% range. The standard's label sits outside the plot, just right of the line's end, so it never covers a bar.
- A one-line caption and the source line at the bottom left.

Axes and grid:
- 1px #352E27 gridlines every 25%, labels with a % sign right-aligned 12px left of the plot. A 1.4px #6B5F52 baseline. No y axis line.
- Standard: a 1.6px #E8E0D2 dashed line (7 on, 5 off) drawn over the bars at the threshold.

Marks:
- Bar chart: vertical bars 44px wide with a 5px top radius, starting at zero. Value above each bar, drawn after the standard line with a 5px page-colored halo (stroke with paint-order stroke) so it stays legible where it meets the dashes. A secondary measure (for example days to germinate) printed inside near the base.
- Line chart: a 2.5px #7CC36B line with 5px dots; points below the standard become hatched orange dots (r 6) with orange value labels, and the dashed standard line stays on top.

Avoid: red for failures (use the muted orange plus hatch), gradients, glow, rounded bottoms, truncated axes and a label box that hides part of a bar.

When you're done, render the chart and check that bars start at zero, the pass and fail colors and hatch follow the standard exactly, value labels stay legible over the dashed line, and the counts and averages in the title and legend match the data.
